Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: John Mitchell to Re-join Wasps

Wow did not see that coming. Has he left England completely? Wasps seem to be leak/rumour proof at the moment.

This is a great signing. A couple of quick thoughts; even if he has been out of sorts the last season or two, second row is a position where the basics of what is needed aren't form dependent unlike say SH or FH. He can do a job simply by being a big lump, off loading etc can be the icing on the cake. Also interesting that a lot of the Wasps' signings have come out the blue meaning that the journos at TRP don't seem to have any current sources at Wasps. Which is fine they obviously depends on sources to do their job but us fans shouldn't be too despondent at the lack of rumours in the future.

Well played Quins. They played amazingly over the last few months. It ends. 2year season for Exeter which might have caught up with them in the end. It will be very interesting next season when things are a bit more normal to see where all these teams sit. Quins season in many ways mirrored our last season except they did what we couldn’t and won. It will be interesting if they can kick on again and be regular contenders.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Robinson replacing Gleeson
« on: June 19, 2021, 10:29:05 PM »
TRP has the headline “Ed Robinson lands job as Wasp’s new attack coach”. Gleeson to be part of the England set up which has been rumoured for a while.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Where do we need to improve.
« on: June 15, 2021, 11:23:45 AM »
There are still lots of areas to improve but i do think we have addressed one of our biggest ones with the signing of Hougaard. I rate Porter and Sam W but the biggest drop off in quality from our first choice is at 9. this is especially noticed because as a team we play off the 9. So to have the biggest drop off in probably the most important position is a major weakness. Hougaard will give us a quality back up and starter when Robson is unavailable which will allow us to develop a consistent style.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: More leavers??
« on: June 10, 2021, 09:15:05 PM »
Of the 10 confirmed leavers I think there are only 3 (Taylor, Brookes and maybe Rowlands) that I think we might miss and one (Si Mac) I would keep for sentimental reasons. But even Taylor and Brookes have had their injury absences and probably are quite costly.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Gleeson

With Amor stepping down as England attack coach the rumour mill seems to be that Martin Gleeson will be the attack/skills coach.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Levi Douglas

Strange things are afoot at Ricoh. We are either cutting costs right down knowing that we can’t be relegated to save some cash in the short term or optimistically there is something big brewing either in terms of signings or commercially that might lead to signings.
Another thought might this be something to sweeten the fact that Brookes is resigning with us and not Toulon maybe breaking a pre-contract agreement? Wishful thinking maybe but we can all dream.

Well with the naming rights announced there was a big commercial announcement in the offing. Now I expect to see some player announcements: Anthony Watson anyone?

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Wales First Try - Fair or not?

Daly was where he should be.

First time for everything...

As the Captain was passing on the message to the team that they must role away quicker from the tackle, Daly assumed he didn’t need to listen as he doesn’t make any tackles.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Blackett hopes Odogwu will get some game time

Bizarre situation isn't it. He's effectively lost his place due to being selected for England. If Kibirige and Fekitoa stay fit he's basically waiting for them to be rested to get a start.

I am pretty sure that Fekitoa has been capped at 12. I would love to see a centre combo of him at 12 and PO at 13. I know we like a playmaker at 12 usually but that pairing would scare the life out of the opposition and definitely give us some go forward.
