This works really easily.

Simply type the text you want to hide, then either write

[/spoiler] after it.

Or even easier, select the text with your mouse cursor and click on the button above that looks like a yellow circle with a radioactivity symbol in it.

Is it fair to say that any thread with a title of "match thread" will contain visible spoilers, all others should use the tags?

I think the match thread is fair game.  If anyone reads something entitled match thread not wanting to know about the match then they deserve everything they get!

As the one who stirred this up I agree with that one. It is the way DW works and is fine. 
Other scores of televised matches should be quoted with a modicum of care as some actually watch/ record worldwide rugby before anything else.

It's an honourable idea but surely people need to take responsibly for their own actions. I "go dark" if I've recorded something and not yet watched it. Avoid news websites....rugby forums....Twitter and.other social media etc.
