.......to become Scottish Rugby's new performance director.

He replaces Scott Johnson, who returned to his native Australia this summer to take a similar role with the Wallabies.

Yes RiL had it well before the Beeb and an interesting move. Shows the whole RFU set up in complete turmoil. Servere mismanagement.
Let me tell you something cucumber

Undoubtedly a success at Saints... but probably stayed a few seasons too long and when they got found out a bit they were then ran out of ideas then criminally went against his earlier saints career philosophy and denied a lot of youth coming through in place of journeymen and they went downhill and he moved on

Rfu in shambles....
Must be Friday.
Never liked Mallinder as an individual - far too many snide comments about refs after defeats and a regusal to acknowledge when his side had the rub of the green, plus the construction of a one dimensionsional team that never came close to playing rugby...

From Thursday's Telegraph:

Jim Mallinder hands 'body blow' to England as he jumps ship to become Scotland director of rugby

The Rugby Football Union have been dealt a fresh blow to their coaching resources ahead of the Rugby World Cup in Japan with the revelation that Jim Mallinder is set to be announced as Scotland’s new director of rugby on Friday.
Mallinder, former Northampton director of rugby, has been in charge of the RFU’s international player development programme following the departure of Dean Ryan in May.
Mallinder, who coached England in their match against the Barbarians at Twickenham in June, had also been in the frame as a potential successor to Eddie Jones but has instead opted to join the Scottish Rugby Union as the successor to Australian Scott Johnson, who is moving to the Wallabies.
It is expected Mallinder will be in his new position in time for the World Cup in Japan next month, given that the RFU is unlikely to want the 53 year-old to remain in place. That will not stop the SRU acquiring significant intellectual property from Twickenham with his recruitment.
Mallinder, who won two England caps, began his coaching career at Sale in 2001. He previously had a role with the national academy at the RFU and also coached England Saxons between 2006-07.

In his time at Sale he led the team to European silverware, and also helped guide England Under-21s to the Six Nations title in 2006 before coaching Northampton for 10 years. He led Saints back into English rugby’s top flight, reached two European finals and won the Premiership title in 2013-14 before leaving the club in December 2017.
He came close to joining Cardiff Blues the following year before Ryan asked him to be part of a major overhaul of the RFU’s development pathway.
“This is a real body blow to the RFU,” said a source on Thursday night. “Jim was seen as an experienced Premiership operator who could carry on the development overhaul. Now the cupboard is completely bare.”
The RFU declined to comment on Thursday night.
