Second Row Option

Nakarawa on a short term deal.
Fanciful notion probably, not sure Neal and Garret money would free up enough to beat Sale to his signature. Probably the only quality lock available.

We are miles away from the cap, so spending big money on a quality lock is money well spent

I would love to think we’re in the race for his signature as would be a timely boost. However, I can’t see us realistically going for him... my takeaway from the summer is that we’re watching the pennies and also I think Dai is giving Flament and Cardell a shot. Although young prospects and deserving of game time to develop, I think we could definitely do with a player of the calibre of Nakarawa in the squad right now

Letting The volume of players leave must give room in our cap, or we are over paying for average players

I seriously doubt that we will have many expensive players by the end of the year, other than that our two marquees, who I would guess would be Joe and Malakai for next year. But, we do have a lot of players on the books. Reduced now by two. I doubt that Neal was on much, and maybe so with Garrett also. IF Sops was to go, he would free a bit of cap, but not a lot.

I can't think we have much wriggle room. Dai did say he didn't have any pennies to spare, but did not say if that was the cap or a set budget. My guess would be that he had been set a budget, just in case an opportunity offered itself after the RWC. But, we don't seem to have much luck parachuting players in on big money. True, some have done well, but then moved on pretty fast.

Money next year wont help this thread of Nakawara in as cover. I don't think we have any cap this year, we have a decent sized squad like everyone else and we have always been at the cap.
Maybe we'll have luck and the knocks will pass.

Rumours we were looking at a lock during the World Cup, Canadian perhaps?
Did he sign anywhere in the end?

I dont recall that rumour so have no idea. Given Flament and Cardall have stepped up maybe that requirement has passed..for now we just need cover I think. Its a fairly unlucky situation.
I suspect there will be a call to the championship or Notts to get us through the next month.

No Nakarawa is a phenomenal signing, but Sale appear to be ahead of the game. I'd argue we'd be more likely to afford him, but might be a bit late.

Nelly,

You sure about Sops? I was under impression he's one of our most expensive players?

Problem is we looked fine with Rowlands and Matthews. We know Launchbury and Gaskell are quality. So we need a short term fix, not really a long term one. Also, if we go and get a replacement now what was the point of signing Vukasinovic.

Kearnan Myall after the Varsity match for a short term fix?

Forgot about Vuka..guess we'll see him now and a warm body on the bench, with fingers crossed.

Watching Vuka in the A game, he simply hasn't got the bulk or strength needed.

It was Ben Landry the American lock who was linked to us and Quins back in the group stages of the WC by the rugby paper I think.
Was at Ealing
