Wow, take care and best wishes Nelly. Similar thing happened to a fella at work a few weeks after he had been given a glowing Bupa health check.

Some of the comments on here crack me up!

Good to hear from you Trevor. When Sarah rang me on Saturday morning telling me what had happened, I thought oh shit, it could happen to any of us. Bryan has kept me updated. What meds are you on? I guess something like Apixaban and maybe one or two others.

Will call you later in the week.

Atorvastin
Bisoprolol
Eplerenone
Ramipril
Ticagrelor
Aspirin (of course)
and a Glyceryl trinitrate pump spray just in case (not to be taken except in case ...)

As you say, one or two ... hehe, rattle rattle.

The specialist said that they thought the artery most likely had a small area of roughness that bits of blood particles had caught on and accumulated to block it. They ruled out cholesterol. There was no fat around the heart, and no indication anywhere else of cholesterol in the arteries or heart. There is no genetic factor (known) in the family. I don't (have never) smoke, don't drink much (not at the games, nor when I am out on my bike or driving). No high or low blood pressure. Heart rate prior to this was normal (resting rate was around 55 for example) and (despite my shape) I swam and went to the gym each week. I am not stressed, nor do I get much stressed (critical for a Wasps fan). All in all, a very low risk for a heart attack. But, it's all about numbers. Low risk is not no risk.

And the sheep thing is a scurrilous rumour.

That's quite chastening - as I can match all of that.....ancient relatives, never smoked etc. and recent days in hospital for hip - all my vital signs were "text book" according to my consultant (BP etc)

I will look towards improving fitness as hip allows (cycling!) and losing the weight put on by not being able to exercise for 18 months

Whilst not wishing such matters on anyone - its a helpful wake up call for all of us!

Good luck with the recovery - the medics amongst us will no doubt be better informed than an old physiology grad...but I guess if it was "mechanical", once "stented" you should have a more than decent chance of being in the clear going forwards - but they've not taken any chances with the drug regime!

Trevor, take it easy. They are certainly leaving nothing to chance with that list.

Your tablet list creates the following anagram :

Saracens implicitly cheating. Poop soon!

Plus a few leftovers.

Glad to hear you came out the other side, NWW.

If you haven't had reason to use GTN previously, beware. If you have used it before then ignore this!

In rare cases it has the opposite effect on - i.e. it slows the heartrate and causes the blood pressure to plummet.

I was taken into hospital and while there had chest pains so they suspected angina and gave me GTN - a few minutes later, my heart rate slowed to 15/min before I lost consciousness - came round in the emergency room about half an hour later with aching chest (that's when I realised how violent chest compressions have to be).

Only one of the senior nurses had seen that reaction before - not even the consultant, although he knew about it as he was the one on duty who injected me with atropine

It was used twice on me. Once as soon as the EKG showed I was having a heart attack, and again whilst in the ambulance as I was fading out of consciousness, so they knew it has the expected effect on me. In my case, I don't think CPR would have helped, as my heart had not stopped trying to pump. It couldn't pump due to the blockage.
