I am not sure whether he would be a good coaching addition for us.  Views on here seem to be divided too.

However, I do have a different concern.  Having seen the Quins debacle with bloodgate and the whole Sarries saga I would very concerned to make sure that Wasps do no enter a territory which could lead them to distractions in the future.  Rob did an awful lot of betting on matches if reports are to be believed (I am in no position to confirm that myself) and if that were to be true I would wish to be sure that that behaviour had been terminated once and for all.

The impression given by the reports so far seem to suggest a betting problem rather than a betting ring. If that is the case then I have no problem with Wasps taking him on. If offering support and a way out of trouble for a former Wasp, whilst benefiting from his knowledge and experience carries a risk of bad publicity then so be it.

I agree with the above - a gambling problem is completely different thing to cheating, on or off the pitch, to gain an unfair advantage.

It was an error of judgement based on the emotion of losing his sister..the guy deserves a break.
To mention this in the same sentence as Salary and Blood gate is fanciful.

Agree.  If, as now seems likely, he joins us following his ban, then he does so with a clean slate.  There was no suggestion of any impropriety in his gambling, but it did breach the rules and he was rightly punished.  Deserves a break.

Probably best steer clear of the Casino though?

You can't bet on Rugby in there - and the food is better and cheaper than on the concourse (but probably not as good as he would get on matchdays!)

Well I would be ok with him coming back from the point of views expressed above regarding betting.

I don't know if he is right as a coach for whatever we can offer him, as I don't know what he is coming in as, but I do know he was shamefully treated by the Welsh rugby press.

Are there other (better?) candidates under consideration? Wasps have not said anything as to who they have been in discusssion with?

Well I think it’s a good idea if it comes off, he’ll work his socks off and it’s very magnanimous of us. It’s not like we haven’t been there before.

I'd be very surprised indeed if we weren't talking to a number of different people.

I'd also be extremely surprised if we were only looking to fill one role.

Let me be quite clear.  i was not for a moment suggesting cheating.  I felt there may be (not, I think, yet established) a need to gamble and I was only saying that I don't think it would help Wasps if that need (should it exist) had not been consigned to the bin so it did not arise again in the future.

I am happy to be led by the views of others on his skills on the coachng front.

I passionately believe in giving people the chance to move on from their previous errors of judgement (I have been given that chance myself) and would support Rob in that too.  If it all behind him and he is the right person to be a coach for us, bring him on with my total support!!!!

We were rumoured to be talking to Dave Walder. Apparently his CV is being circulated (from TRP).
Let me tell you something cucumber

With regards to attack / backs coaches, if we want someone with some kind of Wasps background, then Rob Howley probably has the best CV around.

Realistically, his competition would be Kinga and Walder.

Walder had a great season with Newcastle, but then a relegated season
Kinga was great at Clermont, and it looked good for a while at saints, but then it ended badly (not necessarily his fault)

CV wise there's no contest, although Rob's experience of coaching at club level is limited
