Unless this was sprung by Dai, Wasps must have a successor in mind and maybe Dai is after the Ospreys job as a precursor to being in the frame for Wales in 4 years time.

Dai has always struck me as being honest enough to say if he saw this as part of his career path and ambition to coach Wales.

End of an era.  Massive thanks to Dai and all he's done for the club. I wish him every success in his future endeavours.

Stephen Vaughan confirms:

We don’t envisage a director of rugby coming in this season.

Suggests they had not planned this.

End of an era indeed.

My sincere regret for Dai was that we did not hang on to win the final in 2017. He deserved that one.

Listening to some of his post match comments this seaon, there was an allusion to 'what can I do to improve the performances' and get us on to a winning streak. Maybe it was this that led to what we have just witnessed.

I wish him well in whatever he does next.

Goodey on his Podcast suggesting it's very much the Board's choice and not Dai's albeit Dai has had a good number of offers during his tenure at Wasps and will continue to be a desirable DoR for other teams.

Goode's view is that this is solely due to the ability to take the pressure off thanks to the Saracens situation, meaning they can make the change now.  He suspects that without them being relegated, Wasps would have kept Dai on until the end of the season at least.

As a younger Wasps, Dai has been all I’ve known. Consummate professional, genuine good guy of rugby and I wish him all the success for the future.

He will be in the Wasps history books forever.

But surely it means that recruitment is even more difficult than it was before?
Unless there is another group of likely academy prospects to promote???

Helps that squad turnover is going to be at its lowest since the move to Cov but with a new DoR it could be easier to attract players to a new project with an exciting DoR but all depends on who gets the job and when we announce it.

Whilst SV has said it is unlikely a new DoR would start till next season, that doesn't mean who it will be can't be announced a lot sooner.

To me this leads more towards Howley being involved later, yes he cannot be involved until June but can perhaps ‘unofficially’ discuss terms with wasps in advance, discuss a few transfer targets for the club to approach as well as players he wants to retain if their contract is up.
Can essentially start building his squad without even being in the job.

The statement is part of a compromise agreement which will have been worked out by lawyers on both sides and is designed to say nothing and is not a true reflection on what went on, just a PR exercise, this is how it is done.
Unless someone breaks rank and that would have financial implications, the truth will not be told. Of course that creates a vacuum and into that hole a lot of rubbish will be put.

I too wish him all the luck for the future, we can not thank him enough for what he did for us,  especially in the early days.

Get ready to cheer him on Friday, as he’s expected to be there in a private capacity watching his lad.
