Headline in TRP that 6N going to go behind the Sky Paywall for £300m. Apparently both BBC & ITV have been told that no joint bid is acceptable. Amazon and BT still interested but article suggests they may be prepared to accept secondary spott status for the money.

Also an article asking CVC to publicly state what their plans are - faint hope I suspect.

Shameful if the Government allows the 6 Nations to lose its free to air protected status.

Even worse if live games are only available on the overpriced Sky network.

My bad, I thought it still was. Can't blame CVC for seeking out the best return on their investment but it will be a shame if it goes to Sky who currently have no coverage of Premiership games.

Gives the unwelcome impression/confirmation that CVC is in for short term gain only. Cricket provides a fine example of what happens to the grass roots game and the next generation of fans when a sport disappears from free to air broadcasters.

I’d also query how workable their rule about joint bids would be. Couldn’t the BBC and ITV simply form a joint venture and use that to bid? In fact, what’s to stop them from using their existing partnership, BritBox?
