According to the Twitterverse it is a 5 week shutdown/postponement.

One week or Euro games and four weeks of league games.

Also see it in the Daily Fail:

5 weeks is ever so slightly optimistic - did they not listen to the WHO or the PM or the CMO or the CSO or anyone with half a brain?

5 weeks seems highly conservative to me. I reckon the season is done.

I would imagine there are legal reasons around ticketing and refunds. I should imagine they are going cap in hand to the govt. to ask for at least £5m in interest free loans each.

Otherwise, I suspect that if they declare the season done, some may have to file for insolvency (being unable to meet their debts).

As it is, I expect that Wasps must have to call a bondholders meeting.

There is more going on here than is apparent.  Boris was very careful to say that the government were not banning events.  Just withdrawing support and advising people not to go to them.  That puts the onus of any cancellation on the organisers which will undoubtedly have implications for insurance claims.

I think PRL are being very smart here and making it clear they are not cancelling the season, or even any individual matches. And when the pleasant request for social distancing fails to stop this and the government has to officially ban large gatherings it will be on their shoulders.

Whilst it's the right call health wise I suspect the number of prem clubs that can write off the revenues attached to half a season's games total nil. The season will have to finish. Next season could be treated as a World Cup year in terms of start date.

Could this be the time to look at the possibility of a global league schedule again.

We won't finish our season.
It's possible the southern hemisphere session will get disrupted too.

Maybe we could pick up where we left off at whatever point we can, and then play the remaining couple of months.
Have a lengthy break before starting the following season at a convenient time when the global game can align their calendars.

I know it's been looked at before without being workable, but this situation may actually solve some of those problems
