Is this the second time since this forum has opened that someone mentioned that 'c' word. Can someone remind me, what is cricket? Is it a summer pastime that extremely bored rugby fans engage with when they really have nothing at all to do ..... ?

I think I would rather watch tiktok videos.

In lockdown, I've lost my telepathatic abilities to read other peoples minds, so you'll have to explain?

I have noticed the BBC have all of a sudden started to report on it though?

As I come from a fairly cricket free country* I have found that the English Cricket moderately exciting over the past few days.

* Although I did attend the UK Village championship final at Lords with Bill Simpson (the first Dr Findlay) and several hipflasks of fine malt to watch Freuchie win many man years ago.

Yes - but it isn't always this exciting (the cricket, that is).

No, but what is your logic for thinking it could be?

Agreed. A riveting match. One that only Test cricket can deliver. You can keep your hit and giggle stuff. Anything less than five days isn't the real game.

I'm thinking Neils is referring to that there are other sports more suited to our summer.. or that sports fans may switch from rugby (or their choice of winter based sport) to something they prefer to watch in the summer.

That might be cricket.. athletics..

For me personally.. its Motorbike racing.. Moto GP especially.

My 3 day holiday at Silverstone at the end of August has been cancelled though  :-[

A bit OT BG but WSBK and BSB are where it's at, MotoGP has become so predictable. Sorry to hear about Silverstone, get yourself out to Arragon instead :)
None of these interfere with my rugger tho, they supplement.

Sorry was engrosed in how many ways you can use a chainsaw (Homestead Rescue!). It was a partly flippant comment after an engrosing day of a sport I don't really watch. However, under normal circumstances that match would have been watched by a sell out crowd and a big TV audience (not as big as if it was on terrestrial but bigger than any satellite rugby match). THe weekend had F1 and MotoGP which again seemingly attract big audiences watching processional motoring (except Marquez crashes added to it - my how well he bounces into a broken arm!!). Couple that with Wimbledon and associated tournaments plus Golf coverage all taking audience. It is no wonder that Sky are no longer interested in mainstream rugby in the UK. Anyway the Southern Hemisphere seems to be imploading into its many factions again so World Rugby should perhaps switch their attention away from their global desires and concentrate on stopping the drift towards Rugby League. Just some musings - will now return to watching door openings being cut by chainsaw (must get some new chains in the morning).

Apologies.. the thread was a bit off topic..

In terms of riding to a venue from the UK.. Assen ticks all the boxes.

I'm not sure if there are any Waspie bikers on here.. apart from my brother.

Rugby always comes first though. Like others I'm slightly hesitant about going to stadia.. if (or when) that option becomes available.
