Basset is so underrated for someone who has consistently performed at such a high level for the last few years. A true Wasp through and through.

As I said in the match thread, he gets my underrated player of the year award. He's athletic and brave under the high ball, fast to those high balls, works for his teammates and has a smile on his face.

If there are alternative rugby awards.. can I give a shout out to Le Bouj's Movember tash in the making plus his early 80's hair.

Bassett has without doubt had some quiet spells this season and has not been consistent throughout.
A lot of the action went the other way to Kibirige’s wing and obviously the backline wasn’t quite clicking with Lima. First phase moves weren’t working and Josh was looking for contact more and more when he got the ball rather than space.
Since the restart he has been fantastic and his work in the air has improved dramatically- an absolutely huge amount.
Not sure he’d be in my team of the season but then again can’t think of many who’ve been better and consistent all season.
Thorley, Rees-Zammit, mconnochie, morahan, O’flahrety and kibirige have all been strong in patches.
Basset must have impressed in recent weeks with Jones watching on but imagine he is still a long way down the pecking order

Bassett puts in a good shift every week.  Yes, he was a bit patchy earlier in the season and dropped out of the 23 on and off, but the whole team was hardly setting the world on fire at that time.  Both him and Kibirige are excellent at chasing, and often cleanly gathering restarts and cross field kicks.  Bassett's finger tip pick up on the touchline leading up to Minozzi's try on Saturday was an incredible piece of skill.  Agree with others, a hugely underrated player, so good to see him getting some recognition from outside.

Also remember Josh was not one of those who extended his contract (or maybe wasn't offered?).

My take on Bassett is that he was previously a journeyman playing in a good team where his speed and size could be relied on. I don't think his skills or game reading were in the same class as many of his team mates.

However, since the resumption, the coaches have got something special from Josh. He seems to be much more aware of things and is often in the right place at the right time and his skills have improved immeasurably.

The part he played in Matteo's try was sublime. The handling and passing was in another world to the Bassett of old. He may not have the natural ability of Kibirige but he definitely adds real value to the team.

Journeyman? He’s been with us since 2013 aged20/21 coming from Bedford where had started  in their academy. So he was always going to be behind varndell and the little fella, and then going to Coventry others were brought in for the stardust effect ,so he has been a Less obvious choice .

Personally I think he has always been a solid squad player but now he like everyone
else is being given a chance to really showcase his skills

Reckoned he looked tired, off-form last season, but now seems back to his best, or even better -- really hungry, imposing himself across the field, and chasing/hunting/working furiously.

Suspect a combination of Blackett confidence boost and un-shackling, plus as others have previously suggested, being a player who feeds off the overall quality (and suffers from lack) of backline dynamic, which is currently pretty stellar.
