Very interesting read. I always believed that Costello was not Beelzebub :)

I haven't been on the other site in ages.
Is Costello still the target of Andy's hatred?

For those interested in Andy's views (as mentioned above) who do not go onto the other site (and once did) here they are.
Have to say Andy is pretty honest in admitting a mistake. I thought people don't do that on the internet.
For those who have never been on there, Andy's dislike of Costello was dialled up to eleven, repeatedly, so much so that we thought Costello might have run away with his wife, burgled his house or something similar- it was so personal.
From DW:

I gave him a very hard time and put my hand up to say he’s proving me wrong now.

What I was seeing when he joined the club was a shocking defence and within a couple of months Blackett had been completely marginalised. He was no longer running the pre match warm up, bringing on the water and instructions, running the Prem Cup side and then Gleeson came in as an ‘additional attack coach’.

Reading back to when Costello arrived as ‘skills and exits coach’, Dai said he was personally going to oversee the defence after Blake departed. Maybe I blamed the wrong bloke when Costello became defence coach if Dai was overseeing it, and he decided to change the approach. It was when Blackett was linked with the head honcho role at Coventry that the club moved and released Dai.

Surely no coincidence that since he left the defence has improved immensely under Costello and Blackett and we’ve been a different side in all areas.

Sorry Elvis, I got it wrong.

So there we go- Costello officially not the problem for Andy any more.

I should add thanks for the article- very informative.

I'll be honest. I have criticized Costello openly before, but he has been responsible while the defence has improved, so I must admit I was wrong asking for him to be replaced.

I guess it’s the same for coaches as for players. You bring in a new coach because he has a good reputation/success elsewhere. But if he is then asked to focus/train in a different way and not use the points he is successful at, why bring him in. You probably make him unhappy and this gets passed on to others who may be feeling the same. Massi’s comments seem to be in the same vein.

Hard to argue with that.

Some of the views on the other site for a bit extreme for me... Including, but not limited to Andy's constant berating of Costello.

So for him to openly admit that he was wrong and that Costello isn't quite the devil shows that he's probably quite a decent person. Good for him.

I hope I can do the same when I'm eventually found out to be wrong about something ;)
