Injury update
« on: November 29, 2020, 08:40:00 AM »
From BB :

Wasps injury issues continue to mount after two more players were ruled out until the new year.

England flanker Brad Shields suffered an ankle injury against Bristol Bears in round one with head coach Lee Blackett saying he will be out for a 'significant amount of time'.

Meanwhile Sam Spink became the latest back to suffer the centres curse at the club after suffering a foot injury that will rule the academy graduate out for up to three months.

Wasps are already without Malakai Fekitoa (groin and shoulder) and Ryan Mills (foot) from their midfield options.

On Shields, Blackett said: "Brad's going to be out for a significant amount of time. He's seen a specialist this week, he will see the specialist again next week, being realistic it could be six to eight weeks [out]."

Wasps suffered a 40-24 loss to Gloucester on Saturday and also lost two player to injury. Prop Ben Harris last just 17 minutes before being replaced by Tom West and Tom Willis limped through the end of the first half before being replaced at the interval by Ben Morris.

On Harris, Blackett said: "It was a hip pointer, he went off as it was really sore and he was struggling, he's had some pretty strong painkillers. Ben's a tough lad, he's said he's feeling sore."

He added: "Tom Willis hurt his ankle as well, Tom is pretty brave he was struggling to get through the first half. We are struggling a little bit injury wise. Obviously with  the internationals. It's a great test of the squad. You've got a lot of young lads out there and there was plenty of challenges thrown their way. It's all a part of the learning curve. It's something I don't like talking about, learning curves, I am all about winning, but we will learn some lessons."

Wasps currently have Jack Willis, Joe Launchbury, Dan Robson, Will Rowlands and Matteo Minozzi away at the Autumn Nations Cup. Jacob Umaga has been a part of Eddie Jones' squad but was released to play against Bristol Bears where he suffered a head blow that prevented his participation against Gloucester.

On Umaga, Blackett said: "I am yet to get it confirmed if he is going back with England training. Most likely he will be fit from tomorrow [Sunday] in terms of return to play."

A shame for all of the injured, hope they make the most of their break and rest along with rehab... but especially feel for Sam Spink. Has all the attributes and could have made his Mark!

Good to get an update on Oghre as well, although shame to hear he's been having back spasms. Looks like he might be fit for next week and we will need him to cover backrow as we are down to the bare bones in the back 5 pack.

No sure what has happened to the Tim Cardall from the second half of last season, but can we have him back please?

Yes, agree with this Montague. I though he'd really kick on this year but he's been fairly anonymous in the first two games. I think there are contract negotiations in the offing so I hope that's not unsettling him.

If Tom Willis isn't fit for next week do we play Jamma at 8?
