Everyone's Thoughts on Atkinson?
« on: December 13, 2020, 02:59:33 PM »
Thought I'd ask what everyone's thoughts are on Atkinson's performance yesterday and how he compares to Umaga, Gopperth and Sopoaga.

Definitely can compare him to Umaga  - no fear and  his effort seems the same.
Trying to compare him with Gopperth is bit too soon . Haven’t seen him place kick( or can’t recall it).
Certainly seems flatter in his play compared to how Lima operates and perhaps this is down to mind made up  on what he is going to do.

Similar quality to Umaga. Better at tackling, I would say, and under the high ball.

Impressed.  He's young and plays much more like we want a 10 to do.  At 19, plenty of time to steadily increase game time and exposure.

Very impressed with the hard bits of the game - defence tackling and under the high ball, kicking.
Thinks quickly
Resilient.

Early to say but like what I saw, seems confident and that's what you need from a 10, someone comfortable with the game. I'd be happy with him on the roster cover 10/15.
I will say though he's built like a 17 year old, he looks so young...I was worried with some of the hits he took but dusted himself down.

I thought he did well. Agree with all the comments above. Add in to that he has a wicked show and go which has not come off yet but has been close to. I think he'll make some good yards gliding through.

Good prospect but needs game time to get to grips with the pace and physicality of top level rugby. He will get better with the likes of Dan at 9 and Jimmy, Fekitoa and Mills outside him.

I wonder if he sometimes is trying to do too much too soon.

Looks classy though.

Having watched the game back, feel like he played well for a first outing (start). Handled the basics well and didn't look shaken at any stage. Having Jimmy outside and in the future Mills will really help him.

Still keen to see Spink and Simonds when both back from injury as we are crying out for centre options.

Very pleased for Charlie. I don't think he looked out of place at all - especially when he had a Wales 10 opposite him.

I thought Simons was listed as a 15? Are either he or Spink comfortable at 12?

I thought Spink was primarily a 12 (as opposed to a 13?)

I vaguely remember hearing Simonds could play at 12 or 15, and Spink was exclusively a 13. I remember Spink started against Saints in Prem Rugby Cup last year, he played 13 (double checked and yes he did).
