Didn't Sale score 2 tries out wide? Seems unlikely to me they would deliberately sand the pitch to make it harder to run in those channels.

Both by Yarde. The first started much further back with Yarde already motoring as he hit the dreaded 22m line, but you could see the sand kicking up as he ran.

The second was an infield try, crossing the 22m just to the right of the posts and angling away from the posts.

Keeping speed up, and staying on a straight path seem to be the best options on that sand. Side stepping would probably be a lot harder. I must say, when I watched that run where Josh did not score, I fully expected Dobby to fake the pass and go right. I did not expect him to pass so early, without committing James. At the point of the pass, James had pretty much decided to cover Josh.
