Covid Points
« on: January 02, 2021, 08:52:51 PM »
Saw this on RiL and it makes a mockery of the league -

Gloucester: “Losses” = 4
Covid forfeits = 0
Total points from “losses” = 1

London Irish: “Losses” = 4
Covid forfeits = 2
Total points from “losses” = 5
Let me tell you something cucumber

Its going to be discussed on BTs Rugby Tonight tomorrow after the game. As I said in the match thread, Austin Healey is going to reluctantly make the case for ring fencing the Premier League.  Promises to be a lively debate.

What the Leicester Lip didn't mention on BT Sport during our game was whether he wanted Ring Fencing for this season only due to Covid or for the foreseeable future. Big, big difference
especially as far Salarycens and Ealing are concerned.

I think Healey insinuated he was reluctantly for ringfencing for this season to account for the lottery of COVID and how it impacts on the bottom half of the table.  Will be interesting to see what happens with Ealing/Saracens and ringfencing.

Presumably the default position is that Saracens come up, but doesn't feel fair nor them serving their punishment.

That's the impression I got as well, and it is about the bottom.

Missing out on a top 4 finish or a European Cup place is tough, but you can walk away with a shrug and look forward to the next season. Getting relegated can be catastrophic for the club financially and players in terms of international recognition.

On the other hand missing out on promotion can be just as bad.

A tough decision which has the potential to end up in the courts either way.

It's a bit daft that Team Covid Loss would be sat in 10th place, 4 points clear of Gloucester, who've won a game.

We are only 5 rounds in, so chances are all teams will receive a COVID win and a loss, so may well average out anyway by the end of season.

Maybe a play off  for the bottom four clubs might be the answer rather than ring fencing.
