Pay by position - GP
« on: January 05, 2021, 06:49:45 PM »
BT ran the graphic on pay by position in the Gallagher on Sunday. There were a few movers. Best paid to worst was;
10
4,5
13
3
15
8
6
11, 14
1
9
12
2
7

The two biggest shocks for me were 7's and 13's.

They also showed the Top14 and Pro 14 charts for comparison.

Wonder where they got their info.

I should imagine that Clubs/Players don't want to release such sensitive information.

It was more or less confirmed by a leading agent (Irish) on the BT programme.

It would be more interesting if we knew the amounts, or at least the relative values.

I can't remember the French table; was the 9 valued more highly in France?

Probably get figures off forums like these!

The chap on the programme was as Neils said, an agent with a number players on his books. Very likely in contact with other agents to get ball park figures, so as to know where to start negotiations.

I’ve seen these figures over the previous two seasons, probably been around for far longer, and numbers do change up and down.

Remember these figures are only averages and we don’t know differences ( £000,s or tens of £000s) between each number. Could also be affected by marquee signing if 2 or3 come in for the same position amongst the clubs.

If shugs figures for premiership is correct then the SH has gone from 3rd highest paid in 18/19 to 11th

Maybe Barbeary should consider continuing with being an 8 rather than a 2 !

I remember reading that most of the EPL players.. English or otherwise, are managed by 3 big sports management companies.. each player might have his own agent but he or she will be part of 1 of the big 3. The big 3 also manage other pro sportsmen and women.. so golf.. football.. tennis.

Combined they know pretty much what everyone on their books earn.

I'm guessing IMG are the biggest.

Didn't Itoje's agent get pinged.. ?

I wonder if there are less 13s in people’s squads and a number of those are marquee players. Also you have to have 4-5 hookers in a squad and so the average pay for those positions will be brought lower.

Do we know how rigorous the methodology is? Outliers can skew the numbers considerably.

No idea on this - was just put up as a graphic. I suspect there are all sorts of nuances and assumptions in it but the agent they had on was in broad agreement with it.

The agent said there was a shortage of good tight head props a few seasons ago, which inflated their price.

With 2nd rows at the top of the money table at the moment it is no wonder we've had churn in that position. Probably easier to negotiate better deals.
