now that is surprising, I expected he would get time to create his own team, get rid of dead wood etc.

Confirmed now

The rumoured exodus of a number of players was probably the prelude to this and a reflection of internal issues.

If the Quins message board is to be believed they have some major issues internally, with players either asking to leave or being offered out to other clubs.
What no one is clear on is whether this is "the board" cutting costs due to financial issues or the DoR clearing out players he doesn't want.
Can't see it being the latter if its true Marcus Smith was one of those being offered unless he was a major disruptive influence no DoR in their right mind would want him gone.
In which case maybe Gustard has told the board to shove it?

If the DoR was the issue, they could be right up for the wasps game, if its the club, then they may be even worse now that Gustard has gone... we'll see

Damn - they could have waited a week or so.

Harlequins are a basket case at the moment.

My money is on a cost cutting exercise due to current circumstances that has resulted in Gustard telling them "no thanks". Don't think it will affect our game with them too much. They're an odd team. Capable of good things but very often easily beaten. One of a couple of teams who will be pushing hard for ringfencing.

It amazes me how keen some of these Number 2 guys are to leave big set-ups, thinking they've got all the tools to be a top Premiership coach.
And then...

It will be interesting to see how the likes of Sanderson and Borthwick fare this season too.
But it's obviously not as easy as some are led to believe.
Some people are great Number 2's...but lack that missing component (whatever it is) to be successful Number 1's.

Does Marler getting close and personal to Alun Wyn Jones count?

With all due respect to Care who I've always enjoyed watching play for England, who else would sign a 34 year old scrum half right now?  I suspect they offered him a "stick with us and help mentor the next generation" type massively reduced contract and he jumped at the chance.
