The whole gouging incident, from the gouge itself to the interaction between ref and TMO to the final on-field decision should be kept by the RFU and used as an example in how not to play the game and ref it.

Which is of no assistance or comfort to us.

Unusual as it is you can see Joe getting angrier and angrier at the decisions.

Graham Hughes was the TMO who didn't consider Thorley's red card to even be a penalty. He needs to be retired.

Now fully expecting him to intervene against Wasps

We have to work so hard for our points.

Also, that's two mauls in two games that Oghre has made poor calls at the back

Some poor calls but our inaccuracy is embarrassing

This where the wise heads earn their corn.  We’ve forgotten how to close out games recently.

Another strange decision with Penney throwing the ball into touch to prevent the quick throw, touch judge calls penalty and ref ignored it

Well done to all. Winning after the run we’ve had is never easy.

Reinvigorated with Launchbury back in there and with Barbeary’s energy.
Rowlands and Young looked better as a result and even though we weren’t massively creative from 10 we looked a lot more solid and organised with Jimmy there

Much greater ferocity in attack and defence in the 2nd half. Several good turnovers at the rucks meant we to never had to defend for too long. And then with that much ball 2 tried is a minimum.

Barbeary made a great impact with the ball in hand. Shields also put hand up in the 2nd half, and West played very well once he came on.

Thought Vellacott slowed things down when he came up, not sure it worked for us, we didn't look that threatening after he appeared.

Thought Wolstenholme played well and players were starting to get used to his delayed pass, Young could have been in for a try if he’d held it. He’s not as quick as Porter and as zippy at the ruck but his basics are probably better and has a great kicking game.
Agree things slowed down a little with Vellacott but also came when Newcastle had a resurgence or possessions.
Listening to Lee pregame I think the Hougaard signing is a good one in bringing that experience in to support Porter, Wusty, Umaga and Atkinson
