On the mark. Gaby was a 5. BB's final paragraph:

It’s cruel to judge Oghre on one aspect of his game, but misfiring at the lineout is a big one and is costly in a tight game. When Wasps needed banker ball, the lineout couldn’t produce it in the final quarter of the game.

Tough to pick on a player but that's very true. if we'd nailed that last lineout, we would probably gone on to win.

I think the problem is it's not a one off. It's a serious issue for us.

Gaby is a huge talent. He just needs to nail his line out throwing.

Agree Steve - but he's a hooker. Lineout throwing is his trade. It's like having a prop that can't push. He may be good in the loose but he'll not get games as hooker if he can't sort it out. Unquestionably he has plenty of time on his side.

What worries me is that we have yet to see Alfie throw in for a professional game.

Next season we could find that 2 of our 3 hookers are not up to scratch throwing in.

Hopefully Barbeary will get some minutes in the 2 shirt this season. The experience could be invaluable and we'll need him hooking at some point once Taylor is gone.

Oghre's throwing has cost us a Premiership title and a place in the QFs in the Champion's Cup so far. It needs fixing, or we need to accept he isn't a 2 and recruit someone to replace TT.

That is indeed the harsh truth and you can probably throw in a few Prem points as well. He has a lot of time on his side but we don't as next year we are going with him, Cruse and Barbeary. It has to just be practice, practice, practice.

After I posted the above, the thought occurred to me that some responsibility must be laid at the door of the line out caller. Do we actually know who calls our line outs? You know your hooker is having a problem. There is an absolutely crucial lineout then surely make the throw as simple as possible for him and the rest of the forwards in order to secure the ball. Is the hooker just plain inaccurate or is there something else that is the problem? Is it the height or speed of the throw? Or both? Is it more of a lob rather than a quarterback's zip of a forward pass? Is there a specialist throwing coach, as there are kicking coaches? Do we need to hire one for an intensive training for Gaby and possibly Alfie? So many questions. Can't say that I have any answers  :-[

The difference for me with that lineout today compared to the prem final one was we didn't really need to necessarily score from it, just win it and take some time possibly draw a penalty. While in the prem final given the rain 2 ball was probably the safer option they went for the jugular as a try was needed, no need today when only possession was needed.

Wasn't it thrown to the front? That's an absolute banker, bread and butter

The call was irrelevant. He choked it straight to the front of their line out. There's no getting away from a personal howler. I'm nowhere near writing him off and I think he can improve but chucking in he really needs to.

It wouldn't have been so bad if TT hadn't been nailing it. We'd been dominating the line-out, on their's and our throws, and then suddenly we were back to losing as many as we won.
