He's on the bench, no doubt covering 10 and 15. Lets hope all goes well for the rest of the season and he goes out with a band, showing his true class.

I'd probably opt to finish what I started if it was bringing me half a million quid a year.

Noticed that he mentioned that no dialogue ,re staying or going , with the club . Others have indicated same ,when it looks like they are not wanted. Seems  strange, as uncertainty must surely affect performance , focus, even team spirit.

sounds a bit as if he's been bounced into this choice, which is a bit sad. Disappointing the club didn't just front up and be honest.

Personally speaking, I think his agent should have been more proactive on their client's behalf.

Also, he might be a bit shocked about the weather in Lyon come November!

Yes he does seem to have been rather lax. Probably SH based.

I do think this is taking the pee a little. I can't imagine the Lyon package in the current climate would be as good as what he was on here. So of course he would stay.

I think the agents need to take most of the responsibility here.

If we're desperate to re-sign a player, we'll likely be holding the agent to get the deal done

If we're not so keen, or aren't too bothered about keeping the player, then the agent should be knocking our door.

As for discussing it with the player directly, I'm afraid that's just not something that happens too much in pro sports.
Agents are usually super hot in ensuring that no negotiations or discussions happen with the player.

A couple of years ago I was at a wedding where I got talking to another guest, who turned out to be a Rugby agent.

One of his clients was worth a few pounds (there's a clue there), and during our chat he told me that if a team had not even started to talking about a new contract by August, then they would assume the Club was not too concerned, and start "sounding out" other alternatives so that, in the case of English teams. they could officially agree terms in January. When it came to overseas teams they could start talking at any time.

I would have thought this was the way all agents operated, but if Lima's agent is based in NZ then he could well not be used to dealing with English clubs.

I would have thought all agents were carved from the same block, regardless of nationality. It is in their nature.

Nice of him to stay and stick it out. A bit more backbone than a certain former member of our parish who packed his briefcase at the first opportunity to open a coffee shop in Barnet.
