Pleads guilty, low end, gets a one week ban, already served.

'Disrespecting the authority of the match official'

Authority is an unusual word in the English language.

Authority can be assumed, awarded and/or earned. If it is not earned, respect will not be forthcoming, except grudgingly. It is likely that some officials assume respect regardless of their own worthiness.

I think it rather depends on what he said to the official. Full McEnroe or something less?

I'm glad that he won't be in our game.

Is this an attempt to not get a longer ban?

Can't see it being less than Sinkler got.

I see it slightly differently. Authority has two interrelated meanings... 1: to have knowledge/experience; 2: to have power to act. Unfortunately it appears a number of officials use the second without adequate amounts of the first.

Apparently told Tempest that he wasn't f-ing strong enough to award a penalty try to Tigers.

If he did, he was right.

Regardless of how you feel that you want to define authority, the game has a long history of respecting an officials decision whether it's right or wrong.

Just because we now see a dozen replays of every event, and just because so many more things can be penalised these days, it doesn't necessarily mean that the officials are less competent today than they were 30 years ago.

Admittedly, the rewards are greater these days, but the respect for the officials was greater back then and the game as a whole should be doing their utmost too ensure that the respect for an officials decision isn't lost

I can remember a number of games where we would start off with that respect, but within 10-15 minutes the ref had lost it. He would not get it back, but we went along with it anyway. It spoilt the games.

The video is now circulating and he will deserve all he gets. He is their captain so should no better than to get frustrated to that extent. Mind you Borthwick is probably chuckling.
Let me tell you something cucumber

I remember one match I played f where the ref was useless, and the captain kept saying Yes Sir/ No Sir through gritted teeth. At the end of the match he said words to the effect " I managed to keep my temper, but he didn't know that when I said SIR I was spelling it CUR"

But the end of that Tigers game was a farce, and Bears should be charged with bringing the game in to disrepute. It was plain and simple cheating. Ref had no options available to him though. The penalty try laws need a little tweak with regard to when the offence is in the 5m red zone.

I think you and I view the game differently.

I'm not saying that you have to be happy with the decisions.
The "yes sir" "no sir" through gritted teeth is the right approach.

The teams all have the option to fill out a referee report. That's how any grievances should be handled

Anyone remember Tempest's 1st or 2nd game when we were smashing Exeter in a series of 5 m scrums but he refused a penalty try, blowing too early at least once when Nathan had grounded the ball.

Given that Dylan Hartley was banned for 11 weeks for using the word f...ing cheat in a scrum in the premiership final, which Wayne Barnes took to be directed at him and elliot got 3 weeks for telling JP to grow a pair, then Tom Youngs can surely expect a vvery late start to next season for directly swearing at the referee
