Ben Morris signs new deal with Wasps

Wasps are delighted to announce that back rower Ben Morris has extended his contract with the club.

The 29-year-old is approaching a half century of Wasps appearances since joining from Nottingham Rugby ahead of the 2018/19 season.

The 6ft 3in forward, who has also operated in the second row on occasions, began his rugby with Leeds Carnegie while still at school.

He was then picked up by Newcastle Falcons’ Academy while studying at Newcastle University and spent a couple of seasons on loan at National League Blaydon during which he won England Counties honours.

Morris spent the 2014/15 season on loan at Championship side Rotherham Titans on a dual registration from Newcastle, before moving south to join Nottingham in 2015 where he became a regular member of the Green and Whites back row alongside current Wasps coach Matt Everard.

Morris appeared 14 times in Black and Gold during the 2020/21 season, taking his total tally to 43.

Wasps Head Coach Lee Blackett said: “We are extremely happy that Ben has agreed a new contract with us.

“Ben is a key member of our squad, who’s experience and work rate is pivotal to where we want to go as a team. He has been a consistent performer for us over his three years at the Club and he is always looking to keep improving.

“We are all looking forward to working with him further in the coming years.”

Morris added: “I have really enjoyed my three years at Wasps so far and I am very happy to commit my future to the Club.

"I feel like I am playing some of my best rugby at the moment and that is down to the quality group of players, coaches and back-room staff.

"I am hopefully looking forward to a more normal season in 2021/22, with the Coventry Building Society Arena full of our loyal fans every week."

Really pleased about this. Ben isn't the flashiest of back rows but tackles his heart out.

This is the kind of signing, alongside that of players like Rob Miller, that is hugely important for the squad.
When you look at sides like Exeter, they have such strength in depth where they have been able to keep some of their experienced players who maybe won't play every week but when needed they are there & come in and perform solidly.
Its a shame Wasps haven't been able to keep a few more players like that

Great news.  As said above, a good squad player who has always had to wait for others to be unavailable to get a crack, but when called upon he absolutely never lets us down.  Essential for any squad to retain players like this who can be hard to keep hold of as they could probably get more regular first team rugby elsewhere in the Prem.
