Out of curiosity were there many faux Native American headdresses at this weekend's match watch on the TV it didn't seem to strike that much of a rebellion?

I don't recollect seeing any on the telly and the producer studiously didn't zoom into any of them that were there. Perhaps they left the dead chickens at home.

Definitely didn't see any on the TV coverage.  I took this to be a shift in editorial direction, where previously the TV director may have chosen to include a close up shot of an Exeter fan with a particularly elaborate headdress and face paint, now they conscientiously choose not to.

There were definitely 2 in the centre area of the East stand

I saw 2 war bonnets  each worn by women (anathema to Native Americans)  on separate occasions, one woman  also wearing a war bonnet in the stadium, and two women at least wearing war bonnets on TV. There was  a failed attempt at The dreadful Wail. All in all - no other signs and no difficulties that we saw.

Fascinating events at Newcastle Football Club.

“ The club said: 'Newcastle United is kindly asking supporters to refrain from wearing traditional Arabic clothing or Middle East-inspired head coverings at matches if they would not ordinarily wear such attire.'

However, they have now backtracked on that in a new statement, suggesting that the club's new owners have instead seen fans' attire as a warm welcome and a way of showing support.

'The fans who have celebrated by wearing culturally traditional clothing, including head coverings, have been part of that welcome,' the club said.

'Those who wish to support the club by wearing appropriate culturally-inspired clothing should feel free to do so as they see fit. We are inclusive to all.

'To reiterate what we said previously, neither the club nor its new owners were offended by attire worn, and appreciate the overt statements of support and acceptance by our great fans.'

So going by that logic…Exeter Chiefs just need to sign an affable Native American to their staff/board…and welcome that person for many years through traditional clothing.

It’ll be fascinating to see how this Newcastle takeover is going to play out, as it’s putting quite a few social and cultural issues under the spotlight in the sporting environment.

And for anyone interested - an article on how in football (and indeed society) sometimes  “being seen to do the right thing matters more than actually doing the right thing”
