What happened to no approaches until January? Sanderson publicly confirms discussions are on.

OK, so it would appear that doesn't appear in the regs anywhere. Both RFU Regulation 7 and Premiership Rugby Regulation 12.5 state no approach without prior written permission of the contracting club or outside of 12 months from end of contract.

So I guess Tiggers are either keen to let him go (cap issues?) or Ford is in the last year of his contract. Interesting that the clubs can contact the RFU to ask the expiry date of any player's contract. So not announcing contract lengths solely keeps fans in the dark, not other DORs.

Cue him now getting the money he’s asking for at Leicester and not going anywhere.
Think he’d be a fool to leave Leicester now on rugby grounds, there are on the up and he’ll be playing each week behind a monster pack.
But if he’s now not getting England money coming in money elsewhere will talk.
Aren’t Montpellier interested too

This extends the window a little, and gives players more power and wiggle room, and forces clubs to make their minds up sooner about who to offer a contract extension/renewal to. All to the good I think. Clubs who leave it late may just find the player has gone before they even make an offer.

OTOH, you can see a situation where a player's commitment in the last year of a contract would wane somewhat, if they were not being renewed. The upshot of which could be lower salaries, but longer contracts.

Seem to recall Daly's commitment was on the wane well before he could officially talk to Sarries in the January, when strong rumours were already widely circulating, so not sure the change in regulation changes anything in reality.  Just allows for more openness about stuff that was going on anyway.
