Think we may be in a better place compared to most coping with the salary cap as we can’t be too close to it. I can see lots of clubs losing quite a few big players over the next couple of season’s

Yet we're reported as being very close to the cap.......

Then we are either over paying players or the likes of Bristol, Sale and Sarries are under paying

Matelot,
You might include those playing at Veldtford Road.

The old salary cap was £6.4m + £600k
The new cap is £5m + £600k

Even if we were £1.5m short of the cap before, we're now right on the limit.

There's obviously a bit of a grey area for players whose contracts were signed before the announcement whereby only 75% of their salary is included, but that doesn't really do us any favours.

For example, let's say we released 2 players, one on £150k and the other on £300k (and let's assume neither are a marquee player)
If only 75% of their salary is included in the cap, then if we were to release them both, we'd only get 75% of their combined salaries of space in the cap. I.e. about £350k.

If the larger salary is currently a marquee, then we get no extra space at all in the cap from him if he leaves, and we'd only get the 75% of other one (i.e. about £110k based on the above figures)

It did cross my mind. "Veltford Road" tickled me, first time I've heard that! :D

It’s intriguing to weigh up how this blends with the Koch signing. We’ll certainly lose a current TH. I can’t see how we keep Fekitoa. I think we maybe had a bit of headroom anyway. Going to be interesting.

I do believe Koch is on a hefty salary, but not as marquee. Fekitoa leaving will reduce  the amount we spend, but because we're not replacing marquee doesn't make a difference. Young, and potentially Minozzi, Watson, Mills, Gopperth would definitely make a difference to how we distribute our salaries.

I hope Jimmy doesn.t leave  but stays as player/coach and then is retained as Coach. He's too valuable to lose.

His family (and him) recently got British Citizenship I understand so just maybe he intends to stay a bit long.
Like you I think and hope he will stay - an excellent example of a professional to youngsters.

Indeed. And playing wise he’s actually been better this season than last. I think we’ll get another year out of him!
