Red Card hit on Tom West Ignored by Poite

At speed, flying off the feet clearout, can be seen to target Tom's head, he looks directly at him as he does it. Poite is looking at it as it happens, and the assistant raises his flag, which Poite ignores. Knocks Tom back off his feet.

Blatent red, would have ruined BT sports 'story' for the day so ignored.

On Bassett I think, yes, on the East Stand touchline, around the 10m from halfway line?

Just as well it was missed as under Poite's logic it would have been deemed as a headbutt by Tom on the Munster player's shoulder.

But maybe it was Gopperth, I can't remember. Poite demonstrated such incompetence that it was hard to fathom if he knew any rules. Forward pass, nor problem, we can ignore that. Tackler lying in the way, no problem, let's give a penalty the other way.

However, I am not sure that winning that game would have done Wasps any favours (except the boost to morale). Poite was the equal to J P Doyle. Sad to ruin a game this way, but that is what he did.

The TMO and the Assistant tried several times to get Pratt to review the shot on Jimmy and he dismissed them with a gallic shrug and a 'Non'.

Jimmys fault for putting his head in the way

Was this after 20 mins or so? I recall having something of a shout at the TV…

There was also a number of push comments from TMO on reflink after the one on Zack when Munster got their try, don’t speak French so couldn’t understand the full discussion.
Munster fans near us said they hate Poite as he has screwed then over in the past. They also didn’t agree with the red card. Even when being discussed they were saying penalty only.

The games that I watched over the weekend seemed to have more than their fair share of shocking referee decisions.
For example the disallowed Saints try was a complete joke IMO.

Either the number of games meant too many in-experienced refs having to be drafted in (although Poite doesn't fit into that category)
or there was a directive to referees to ignore some of laws.

Either way it ruined a few games, that's for sure!

Sunday has to be the most dreadful refereeing display yet - far worse than Smails, JP and Barnes.
Let me tell you something cucumber

I speak and understand French well, and still had no clue what Poite was on about most of the time.

Listening to what we could hear on TV, it sounded like the TMO was saying you could clearly see he deliberately pushed Zac, and Poite was saying not, he just fell over and it was accidental. I think Poite was looking for a way to award a try, rather than come back for the penalty advantage.

Poite was clearly watching a different game from the rest of us and was more than happy to make up news to interpret the rules as he saw fit.

If Poite is finding the refereeing game is a bit much for him, I’m sure he could audition  to become the FIA’s next race director. Given what happened in both sports on Sunday, he’d be a perfect fit for the role.
