Wasps v Toulouse
« on: December 14, 2021, 03:57:40 PM »
Someone stated that we usually lose against Toulouse.

I have been at all the games bar one [a draw at Adam's Park which paradoxically I watched from Brennan's Bar in Toulouse - and no it wasn't because I went to the wrong venue 8)]

I think our record against Toulouse is second to none in the professional era.

Wasps 77   Toulouse 17    26 October 1996
Wasps 27  Toulouse 20    23 May 2004
Wasps  15  Toulouse 15   2005/6
Toulouse 19  Wasps 13   2005/6
Toulouse 18  Wasps 16   2009/10
Wasps  21  Toulouse 16  2009/10
Toulouse  20  Wasps 20   2016/7
Wasps  17  Toulouse  14  2016/17
Wasps  16  Toulouse  24  2018/19
Toulouse 42  Wasps  27  2018/19

4 wins each and 2 draws.

Sunday might spoil that record somewhat.

I was at that 2011 game when Lemi scored in the last minute. Absolute bliss.

I got to go to 6 of them.

Remember the Lemi try well.

But the one that will remain in the memory until the grey cells give up is Rob's at HQ in the Final in 2004.

I was there on a corporate jolly and it was the game that turned me from a disinterested rugby fan in to a Waspie.

Haven’t posted for a very long time, quite disillusioned with Rugby to be honest, I can recall being at 8/10 of these games, missing the first and the last (courtesy of BA deciding to fly back home…….) Abiding memories Dave Walker missed kick for a win in atrocious weather, and being drowned  on the way back to hotel …. Nathan last minute try and of course Rob Howley better known as Poitrensud howler
Great times, made many great friends but won’t be there on Sunday ( wonder if we even can field a team this week

I see Gabe/Gaby is out for a month, and JTA is injured. But Miller might be back this weekend, as might Alfie and Nemo. Fifita seems less likely, but possible.

No news on Covid cases:

The 1996 game at Loftus Road when we scored 77 points - I ran out of fingers counting the tries - was very unusual, to say the least. Did Toulouse send a weakened squad?
2005 was a day trip - breakfast & lunch in Toulouse and back in UK before midnight.
The Howley try will never be forgotten. I felt sorry (but only almost) for the full back.

I did enjoy that 77-17 rout.

Nick Greenstock had a good game.
Sammo and Sheasby too.
It was proper champagne rugby.

Just found the clip.

Though many of us, the supporters, would like to see the club concede the game, I bet if you asked the players then they'd all want to play.

I was there. Didn't Ntamack actually score first for Toulouse?

We have a moral duty to put a team out if we can, and can do it safely.

Image if one of the teams in our group conceded a game they could have played without good reason and that meant we missed out on a place in the next round? We’d be outraged.
