At speed, flying off the feet clearout, can be seen to target Tom's head, he looks directly at him as he does it. Poite is looking at it as it happens, and the assistant raises his flag, which Poite ignores. Knocks Tom back off his feet.

They are linked up via comms, why did he just leave it with the flag raised? Why isn't he constantly saying "foul play"?

The TMO and the Assistant tried several times to get Pratt to review the shot on Jimmy and he dismissed them with a gallic shrug and a 'Non'.

Jimmys fault for putting his head in the way

Yeah - it was the one on Jimmy, contrary to Law 20 (a) Dangerous play in a ruck or maul.
A player must not charge into a ruck or maul. Charging includes any contact made without binding onto another player in the ruck or maul.

Listening to what we could hear on TV, it sounded like the TMO was saying you could clearly see he deliberately pushed Zac, and Poite was saying not, he just fell over and it was accidental. I think Poite was looking for a way to award a try, rather than come back for the penalty advantage.

That was my understanding as well.

Was Mahoney involved in those tackles. He does go in rather more aggressively - is that the right word? - than would seem appropriate.

Looking at the angles I don’t think Poite can see the point of contact, which makes his conduct worse.

Even if he doesn’t believe there was a penalty for flying-in (it looked like one to my jaundiced eye), he should have gone back to look at the next breakdown as a player welfare concern once potential  foul play had been brought to his attention.

It’s wrong to say the Citing Officer can deal with it, if there has been foul play it needs to be punished there and then.

I understand refs want to keep the game moving and not spend time looking at videos of every breakdown but player welfare has to take priority.

Guardian Breakdown

Can I recommend avoiding reading it today if you wish to keep your equilibrium......Robert Kitson is too often a poor journalist, but any more of this "miracle of Munster" shtick will do my head in......

Sunday has to be the most dreadful refereeing display yet - far worse than Smails, JP and Barnes.
Smales away at Gloucester I did not think I would ever see topped. But Poite managed it.

I wonder at what point a reffing performance become negligent in terms of a Duty of Care to the players.  What if one of the players taken out in the second half has suffered a career ending injury? At what point would his reffing of events earlier in the game result in a negligence claim?

Next time we get Poite tell him we've moved back to Loftus Road.

My tailored adverts on this page are advertising Specsavers, just below the word "Poite".
Tech nowadays is really on the ball. Which is more than Poite was.

I see based on Sundays performance Rugby Pod have amusingly described Poite as “an absolute cowboy of a referee”.
