I don't think the pitch had ever been used as a rugger pitch, whatever that is.

If I was CCFC I would simply have bought the Ricoh Stadium when it was for sale.

They can always build their own stadium like they have been promising for years.

The pitch is in a bowl. Therefore two things happen.

1. Does not dry out after heavy rain, even with the drainage system that is installed.

2. Does not get enough sun during the winter months to help it either.

As long as EFL don't raise a formal complaint, I can't see how CCFC can force Wasps to do anything about the pitch. Unless of course they decide to spend some of their own money.

One challenge with relaying a pitch or even just letting it recover in the off season is Wasps need the income from other events - for example the commonwealth games 7s this summer and large concerts such as Killers/MSP. So if CCFC really want a top quality pitch they need to pay for it to be laid and pay Wasps NOT to use it for other events. Or they could build their own stadium ... but I'm not holding my breath for that one.

Short memories from CCFC?

Less than a year ago:

Boddy (City CEO) added: “Mark Robins and I came to look at the pitch in the summer with Stephen Vaughan and his grounds team and it was in a far better condition than it was when we left here, so it’s already better than it was when we last played here.

And that was even before the full & costly pitch renovations that took place last summer!

So a worse off pitch was good enough to play on before (when they were sole tenants & fully responsible) yet a much improved pitch now illicits a public smear?
