I did say I wasn't sure how old it was. 30 extra caps is how many years? 2, 3, 4 ?

20 starts 26 subs , 46  in total over 4 and a bit seasons 2 try’s .

11 appearances last season . 9 so far this season

Glasgow fans saying he's someone not many people know about outside of the club, but he's really good. Quite a bit of praise. More than I saw for Odendaal as well.

Could be we’re getting him at the right time. His Glasgow appearances are on the up and 27 is a nice age for a lock.

How many second rows do you think a squad needs? I’ve always thought six and by my reckoning that gives us Launchbury, Stooke, Gaskell, Cardall, McDonald and Vukasinovic

Problem I have with that is that all bar Vukasinovic would arguably see themselves as good enough to be in the first 23 regularly, and that leaves 5 genuine Premiership 1st XV quality players vying for 3 spots or kicking their heels waiting for their opportunity through injury or international call ups.  We already have a very strong group of back rowers for next season, so opportunities for McDonald or Gaskell there might also be thin on the ground.

Great if we are going into next season with all of them, and being able to rotate is of course important, but keeping them all happy could be quite a challenge.  Just wonder if we might be losing one.  If not now, then another year on if they feel they could get more opportunities elsewhere.

Six sounds about right, some would argue 7 where the seventh might be a lock who can also cover back row, as Gaskell does. In which case one more would be ideal. A balanced squad numbers around 45 players, plus some senior academy jokers, just in case, often in the backs.

Website says:
"A former Air Cadet, McDonald won the 2012 Kriegie Trophy, awarded to the best Cadet at Cadet Leadership Courses."

So another strong leader. Just what we need.

Assuming Launch goes back into England Squad for a long time, I think it is only a matter of time before Eddie realises that Stooke is a better option than Ewels and Hill, so we lose him as well. So we are then down to 4?

And if McDonald is a Scottish squad player going forward, that’s only 3 , probably 1 injured at anytime, then down to 2 .

Don't forget Alfie Bell in the Academy. He's looking promising, might get a few opportunities or an early promotion in the next year or so.
