Briz Scrum Half Injury Concern.
« on: February 24, 2022, 10:33:04 AM »
From Bobby:

Bristol Bears could have FOUR scrum-halves injured or unavailable on Friday night.

For a third successive week, the Bears lost a scrum-half to a potentially serious injury as Toby Venner, who only joined the club on loan from Gloucester Rugby on Monday, damaged his knee in the 19-14 defeat to Worcester Warriors on Friday night in a non-contact incident.

Having come off the bench for his debut for the club, replacing Theo Strang who was making his first start in the Premiership for Bristol having arrived on trial in the summer, Venner was replaced at number nine by Ioan Lloyd who has now played in every position in the backline at some point this season.

Venner joins Andy Uren and Tom Whiteley on the sidelines with both men out with hamstring injuries, while first-choice number nine Harry Randall is away on international duty with England in the Six Nations until March 26.

Not having a 9 will really hurt a team that loves playing at pace in the backs.

Lam having a pop at artificial pitches, like most of us have

I’m sure Prem will have studied this to see if injuries are more prevalent.

Completely agree with him on the plastic. It’s dangerous.

Do sides in URC visiting places with artificial turf have issues?

Trying to remember if French have any , Racing ?

I know people visiting Glasgow get nasty burns. Not sure about the new Edinburgh pitch or Cardiff.

I recall some stats gathered a few years ago that seemed to show that artificial pitches caused less injuries, but those it did cause were of a more serious nature.
I may be mis remembering so happy to be corrected.
Pitch technology may also have moved on in that time so may not now be relevant.

It's interesting in that article about amount of community use compacting them which might provide variation between prem clubs. Worcester's is very heavily used  by them and also by their own age groups, women, local clubs etc
