Some suggestions (from a friend who's a Quins STH) that Marler effectively discharged himself from England camp in order to play.  Seems odd that Eddie the authoritarian would allow that, but equally Marler's own views on how he has struggled in the past mentally in camp might mean he's allowed a little more flexibility - especially if he's relatively short on gametime.

Still doesn't quite stack up with Joe/Alfie weren't released.  Or perhaps the option was there but Lee didn't take them up on it.

I am sure Lee would have taken up the option, if it was ever on the table. It was so obvious they the Wasps pair, only just back from long injuries, needed game time in their club environment. I don't go along with the anti-Wasps conspiracy theory. It's just that Jones never thought of it.

Alfie is also quite clearly being assessed and brought up to speed for international rugby. Launch has been out for months and likewise needs to pick up the pace again. That they were later released suggests they didn't manage to.
