URC to have a second division?

No real substance except SA cheetahs ( not Sarries or tigers) have hinted at possibility of expansion.

But if it were to happen may force Premiership/RFU into serious action re Championship.

The whole bloody thing is an unweildy mess. Bringing in SA has not yet been a success. They should have expanded into near Europe.

Big question for me would be who’s going to be in it. Not sure a third pro Scottish club is viable although I’m amazed one hasn’t been touted in the borders and the regions in Wales and Ireland are settled. Just can’t see enough teams to make it up.

Unless they have touted a couple of Georgian/ Romanian clubs ? As per Neil’s post. Along with a couple of SA teams that would make 20 in total , so two divisions of 10 .

A third Scottish team is not practical based on the funding model they use. They had the rugby playing Borders team but wound it up. Moves were to get a Northern club raised but interest and funding was low. The Fosroc 6 was the opportunity to take senior rugby to other areas but the SRU buggered that up in their selection.

I'm waiting for some premiership clubs to find Celtic grandparents and put an A team in the league.

Scottish Saracens
Bridgend Bristolians
Hamilton harlequins

Wash your mouth out - associating the EAs with anyone is unforgivable.

Further fleshing out , possible meeting end of April on back of promises made a couple of years ago.

Wonder if some of the better funded Championship clubs might express an interest & break away from the English structure?

I can't imagine any Romanian sides having the cash to get involved as the Union is broke. Georgia is a possibility as their Rugby Europe Super Cup side is currently also competing in the second tier of the Currie Cup.
