Playing devil's advocate here; do red cards actually change the outcome of a match?

Sides spend so much time training on playing with 14 men that having a player sent off no longer has the impact it had 15+ years ago.

Against England, 14 men appears to be an advantage!

Sad to say, but even more so against Wasps. Going down to 1 hasn't been a disadvantage in the recent past.

I am sure even England or Wasps could win 15 against 1😁

I suppose another 'metric' to consider is excitement / entertainment value when a team has gone down to 14 players. Teams are well drilled in playing with 14 and I assume that includes more kicking and more 'stuffing it up the jumper' rugby. Neither of which entertains neutrals or will bring in new fans to the game.
