All EFL fixtures from 9-11 September will be postponed as a mark of respect by the National Sport to the passing of HRH Queen Elizabeth II.

Alex Lowe tweets: After initially being ready to play on, tonight's Premiership games are now expected to be rescheduled - but the w/e matches are due to go ahead as planned.

There are Championship games tonight and no word yet from the RFU, although latest indication is that they will go ahead.

I'm guessing the pulling of football has to do with police availability over the next week.
Rugby doesn't have that problem thank god.
Officers from every force will be needed in London.
I've got a feeling rugby will take place this weekend, and I feel a little uncomfortable about it if I'm honest.

Tweet from Wasps:

"We are currently awaiting guidance ahead of this weekend’s planned fixtures.

We will provide an update as soon as possible.

Any related game information such as team news will follow once an update has been provided.

Thank you for your patience."

What an absolute shambles.

From the BBC:

Quote
The government's national mourning guidance states cancelling or postponing sports fixtures is not obligatory and "at the discretion of individual organisations", including on the day of the state funeral.

So its up to Prem Rugby and they're not known for the swiftness or consistency of decision making. No doubt they'll take guidance from the RFU which will slow down the process further.

Nobody is prepared to make a decision. All worried about their prospects of a knighthood. Don't want to get on the wrong side of the new King!

I'm getting annoyed now. She was 96 and could have gone at any time. Why was no decision taken about games, days, if not weeks ago? You couldn't make it up >:( >:( >:( >:(

RFU have just stated that Rugby Union is to go ahead this weekend. I suppose Premiership Rugby could decide otherwise.

The organisers of the event I'm at tomorrow have made a decision:

Quote
“It is with great sadness that UKLA acknowledge the passing of HM Queen Elizabeth II. We extend our deepest sympathies to the Royal Family and all those affected at this sad time.

Together with our partner WPNSA and other stakeholders, we have decided that the Qualifier this weekend (10th/11th Sept) at WPNSA will go ahead.

There will be a period of silence on Saturday morning and sailors will be asked to put black tape on their masts (which we can supply). There will be no social media, social events or prize-giving.”

I'll be cross if Sunday's game is off because I would have been doing the whole weekend down there.
