Cheika survives the axe
« on: December 17, 2018, 08:50:23 AM »
The re-organization of Australian rugby seems to have missed Cheika completely.  They have a new DOR, but he stays on as Head Coach.

Is Scott Johnson the coach that used to be with Wales and then perhaps was head coach for USA for a period of time.. or am I getting names and faces mixed up?

Seems a curious decision by Oz RU to bring in someone above Cheika. Its like a polite way of sacking someone, similar to how Nick Kennedy at LI was forced out

In my mind the ideal outcome from this change is that Kurtley becomes completely disillusioned by Australian Rugby and returns to Wasps, just in time for next season. Okay at this point I fear have passed into the realms of fantasy.
It was fine when I left it.....

I had thought that too.

Well, the Club, the players and the supporters would all welcome Kurtley back with open arms. Fingers crossed.

How much broken glass do I need to crawl over to get him back?
The ultimate WLR replacement...

While we're dreaming can we replace Elliot with Charles too.

The supporters would love to see someone of Beale's talent sign but I wonder if Dai's outlook on signing big name SH stars has changed slightly. Afterall Beale could sign pledging his full committment to Wasps only for him to be wooed by the next Oz coach to return

As much as I like WLR (notwithstanding recent issues 'out on the full x 2, in Europe vs. Bath' and 'passing to the opposition, Toulouse'), he is not close to Kurtley Beale, the 1/2 a season we had from Beale contained some truly breathtaking rugby from him and a true world class fullback. That is what we need, a few mercurial players that change games. Kurtley's ARU and Waratahs contract is up next year.

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2017/mar/10/rugby-kurtley-beale-to-return-to-australia-at-end-of-english-season

However this is all still a dream and the realist in me says it won't happen but it would be nice. Perhaps it's the big announcement - wishful thinking!

The few games when we had Wade, Beale and WLR in the back three were amazing.
