Robert Shaw - Actor
« on: August 11, 2023, 12:13:27 PM »
I was reading about Robert Shaw, who played Captain Quint in Jaws. Apparently he was a good rugby player and played for Wasps at some point. This must have been late 40s early 50s (same time as my dad).

I can't find any reference to him in Wasps history and my dad never mentioned him. Shaw would have been 18 at the end of the war and had achieved national recognition as an actor by 1956.

Interestingly, he was lead actor in a TV series called the Buccaneers in the 50s, an episode of which was called 'The Wasp', and he played the Irish mob boss in 'The Sting'.

Does anyone have any more information?

This extract is taken from a biography site :

1956/57. A keen sportsman, he played rugby for London Wasps. In 1957 his school quarter-mile record still stood. He was an expert swordsman and a squash enthusiast.

Bit of an error calling us 'London' Wasps.
