MM and AC
« on: January 11, 2019, 03:06:49 PM »
Matt Mullan and Ambrose Curtis have moved on already. Not waiting for the end of the season.
Shame we didn't see Matt again, he was a very useful player for many seasons.
Pity Ambrose never got a look in.

Is Dai freeing up salaries, I expect so? Mullan is capped so I suspect reasonably well paid. Curtis looks like a failed project, and not well paid. Interesting to see what transpires.
It was fine when I left it.....

Curtis..meh, had to be bad not to get a shot at anything..maybe attitude, who knows.

MM is a shame, when fit his workrate was excellent but maybe injury taking it toll. Be interested to see his next move, good luck to him.

Best of luck to both.. Things obviously didn't just work out or fit with Curtis. I wonder if Mullan has a contract all ready signed  or has decided to hang up his boots after such a long injury. He'll be 32 at the end of the season so you would hope he has another year or 2 left

Shame about Curtis, but I'm really disappointed at Mullan, I'd like to be told a little more about what has happened there...

Given that MM was captain a few seasons ago, you've gotta feel that he's on good terms with Dai and co.
Therefore, I'd like to think there's nothing untoward involved.

I'm hoping it is truly mutually beneficial.
We get to free up some salary cap
Matt either gets to sign for another club before the Summer, or maybe wants a complete break for a few months to reset and start again next season for a new team.

My thoughts exactly. Normally when someone moves on they say why....it does not say he is quitting rugby, I would infer that there is another club coming in for him (perhaps unannounced as a courtesy by Wasps to the other club) , or he has offers from more than one club and is considering, or things are so bad at Wasps with him and Dai that being paid to be injured is worse than not being paid, which is unlikely to say the least,  as paid is better than not. Maybe it is an insurance or legal  thing, have there ever been contracts where they run out in Jan or can be terminated early?

I'd guess we paid out the rest of his contract, but by not playing him, he's not part of the cap.

Think you have to pay for a player upto 6 months whilst injured? Might be less.

We paid Sam Jones for a lot longer than 6 months.

We did, but we didn't have to. Who knows what the agreement with Mullan was.

Maybe we decided that we had learnt a lesson there.

The BBC says he's been out for just under 12 months. That's more like what I would expect. It's also long enough to have a good idea of whether you'll actually make it back.

But that would be more like "retires following medical advice" rather than "leaves by mutual consent". The latter sounds more like a further announcement will be forthcoming about a move.

I suspect he has another job on offer. No team is going to sign him right now if he is still on the injury list. Maybe it is to join a coaching team?

MM: perhaps a return to Warriors, or to Coventry (aspirational club) may be on the cards, according to Wikipedia he went to Bromsgrove School (was born in Brighton), so I am guessing he has West Midlands family ties/roots. All supposition of course.
