Chesty & TT
« on: January 16, 2019, 12:34:49 PM »
As wonderful as the Fekitoa news is.
Alongside the Simmo, Jamma news.
Concerned for Chesty and TT who are still a way off according to Bobby Bridge in the Cov Tel. I’m sure they will get the time they need (and more is useful) but should we look for cover at 2? Oghre is a step down, Ash has had a couple of injures and Cruise has played hours of rugby already. Anyone have any insight into how they’re both doing? It’s a very unpleasant thing to spend so long out with.

When did Bobby last report on this? I seem to recall the last thing that Dai said was that he was hopeful that they would be able to start training over the next few weeks. It is, however, very concerning. As is the paucity of news on Alex. We hear regularly from Jimmy and Tom, but not Alex. Dai has also said that Simmo will be back soon.

Let's not forget Harris too who has done just fine when he's been on.  It's a worry I accept, but I don't think it's panic stations just yet.

Big Mac and TT are a huge concern.

Despite both having signed new contracts, there is no sign of them returning to play in the foreseeable future. Recovery from concussion is a serious business and as neither has played since Nov 9, I fear that the signs are not good. Look at 1/2p.

Alternatively look at North & Hartley. Both had issues, took the time to sort them out and are back playing with no concerns.

Even the messiah himself St Danny had concussion problems as a young player, doesn't seem to have done him any long term harm....

“There is also good news with the long-term injured, with Young revealing that James Gaskell and Joe Simpson are both close to returns and could be available this week.

Second-row Gaskell has not featured  with a back issue since scoring a try in the 32-28 victory over Bristol Bears in November, a week after scrum-half Simpson injured a knee against Northampton Saints at Franklin's Gardens.”

I see that trials of a new pitchside test for concussion have finished are are now full steam ahead for introduction. The doctors say before the WC they will be in place. It is a saliva test and is ultra accurate. Takes only a few minutes and removes the need for the traditional HIA during the game, and replaces the 6 day protocols. It was announced on Radio 4 this morning on the Today program, at around 8:30AM.

Been approved by the RFU and the roundball authorities. The work was not sponsored, but instead paid for entirely by a charity, so no vested interests to fiddle the results.

That is some top information. Thanks for sharing Nelly! Hopefully it’ll be implemented soon.

NWW, do you have any links for that?
I can see lots about the trialing of such a test, but nothing about it's implementation

I may be well off script but wasn't it a Scottish Uni that have been researching this for years to try and find some sort of test that is black and white rather than relying on cognitive tests.

I think they researched it for football players heading a football (for decades).. and ending up being  "punch drunk" in their mid life

Go to about 2 hours 29 minutes in.

Although I may have misheard it. But, you judge. Birmingham Uni.

To clarify NWW's post.. it happens 2hrs 29 mins into the program.

It doesn't sound like they can do it at pitchside yet.
