Dai on Elliot's switch to Saracens
« on: February 08, 2019, 10:15:51 AM »
Bobby Bridge quotes Dai:

"I am a little bit surprised he’s going to Sarries with all the players they’ve got and I am a little bit surprised they wanted to fork out that type of money for Elliot.
Not that he is not a quality player, not that he is not worth it, because he is, but they have got a number of other players as well."

More from Dai:

"We did everything we could to keep him. You can only do what you can do, there’s lots of things that have been written and most of it is rubbish as normal. He certainly hasn’t got to Sarries for less money that’s one thing.
It isn’t a massive money decision. He’s not that way inclined but nobody moves for pay cuts or the same money.
You can take that out of the equation.”

That's pretty pointed for Dai.

Unusually frank in public. Little by little it will come out. I understand that a few Sarries players are not too happy about him incoming (this from an local accountant/long term STH).
Let me tell you something cucumber

Yes, quite!

I think there must be some unhappy bunnies in the Wasps camp at the way things have played out as well as us fans.

So money talks and the new challenge is what to spend it all on, and then we all think so how do Saracens get under the salary cap. I believe he was a pretty high earner at Wasps, given he only signed a new deal two years ago. That also correlates with the deafening silence from most Wasps folk on social media on his move, the complete opposite to Joe Simpson's move. I just hope he turns up for the rest of the season, as that almost feels like Dai saying Elliott is coin-operated.
It was fine when I left it.....

I suppose the sticking point is the manner in which all of this was carried out. I am sure had Elliot saw his contract through rather than triggering a release clause, a lot of fans would be a bit more forgiving if he had still moved on afterwards.
I appreciate Elliot's statement but I struggle to see where the challenge is (disregarding the usual "different environment/way of working etc etc").

Its a bitter pill to swallow but all we can do is suck it up and say thanks for the past.

It's clear now he's gone for a pay rise mixed in with being pally with a number of  Sarries players.

Nevertheless what I won't do is wish him luck for the future as that, as a Wasps supporter is not in my best interest.
