Didn't someone say a few weeks ago that they saw him wandering around Coventry and wondered if he was on his way

Simon Shaw was a useful player beyond 35.  Don't see why Fardy couldn't be similar.

Would this just be as WC cover? As an emergency signing to cover injury then signing a fit, experienced 35 yr old makes sense... but to be part of a strategic plan?

I guess it was less about his age than the need.

WRC - might lose Sheilds and Young from the back row, Def launch from 2nd. With returnees and in situ players, we are covered.

Just seems an odd one.

Still good enough to be nominated for European player of the year last season!

Doesn't make him needed at Wasps

I've always liked Fardy. Didn't realise his age but still think he could be a good signing.

If it happens I think it would be a good move.

If England do well in the RWC we may be missing Launch for a while and then again over the 6 Nations so it would be good to have an experienced international (whose played in a world cup final) who has got a good bit of dog and aggression to him. He'd also be a good leadership addition I think.

I remember the last over the hill player we got from Leinster. He turned out alright. Came with a lot less fanfare than Fardy would too.

We do need a second row, maybe not a back row. In fact I believe that Launch has covered up glaring deficiencies in the second row depth by being fit for more than we have any right to expect given his international appearances. Myall, Rowlands and Matthews as choices three through five is underwhelming to me.

35 for a second row is younger than 35 is for a back, at least, and people here proclaimed Jimmy's import this year in his absence, and Fardy is of that vintage.

Betsen did a decent back row job older than that.

Obviously what we all want to see is top, young English talent, but when that is not about compromises have to be made.

Rowlands has been standout in my mind www, Myall is solid enough, maybe not someone I want to see in knockout stages if possible, but a solid enough backup. Matthews was apparently looking quite good in the cup games.
