Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Ex Wasps signing for new clubs
« on: December 19, 2022, 12:22:13 AM »

According to TRP Tom West has joined Ealing for this season and next.

Tom West is too good to play at Championship level.

He’s already played in the Championship for two seasons. He was essentially shaped in the Championship. Not all that long ago. And Ealing are pretty good. It’s an absolute myth that the Championship is rubbish.

I imagine his appendicitus (and potential appendectomy?) might be limiting Tom at the minute.

I've not heard even a rumour about Umaga which is quite surprising.
Others surprise me more. Robson, West, Oghre, Stooke, Odogwu, Spink.

I cried at the weekend when I read the RP- there seemed to be many rumours about the other front rowers but nothing about West.
I’m a soppy so and so I know- my husband was looking at me funny (he supports Tigers, I didn’t expect him to understand!!)

Maire - our family know exactly how you feel!!!  I sponsored Westy for about 2 weeks but when Mr Wonky, our daughter and I met him at the BBQ  Tom and Jenny got on so well (our daughter is married to a dairy farmer and Tom is from a farming family) discussing farming and Brexit and rugby etc  that they almost forgot to go for their lunch.  So Chris and I re-arranged for the sponsorship  to be held by Jenny - who couldn't believe her luck!  I was then fortunate  enough to be able to  sponsor Will Porter.  So - yes Maire!  -  there is another 2 families as chuffed and PROUD as you!

Congrats to you too Wonky and family! What a great story. I will cheerfully admit I don’t know the first thing about farming so our conversations were a bit more mundane :D

I’m so proud and happy I could burst! (To those of you who don’t know I used to sponsor Tom for both the seasons he was on loan at Nottingham- and I’ve followed his progress closely since) I know how hard he’s worked for this and I’m so chuffed for him it’s unreal.
On the flip side I wish Joe a speedy recovery. Big loss to both Wasps and England.

Brilliant :) I’m very proud of him! He’s come such a long way since he was with us at Nottingham- and his brilliant work rate hasn’t changed.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Mike Daniels signs

He hadn’t played for Nottingham since January when he suffered a head injury playing against London Irish. Indications were that the concussion was pretty bad but I think there were other issues in play too (sorry, I’m mindful of what I’m saying if you see what I mean)

Is he due to play for Nottingham next season or are the "other issues" playing a part in that as well.

That I don’t actually know the answer to. I presume not as Notts have already signed a replacement. The other issues weren’t personal but other injury problems he had- I don’t actually know how bad they are, all I know is that they were there if you see what I mean. I don’t know if the concussion and the other injury problems will be the end of his career or not- I hope not.

I actually had a sneaking suspicion this would happen.
I spoke to him at the end of season awards for Nottingham and there were some things he said to me that made me wonder then if the signing either had or was going to fall through.

Was he playing for Nottingham towards the end of the season or was he suffering from a long term injury?

The only way I can see the quoted squad changing is if Minozzi's injury doesn't look like it will heal and at that point Wasps may then approach Leyds. Nothing has appeared about Leyds going to another club so a lot of his future club plans may revolve around his WC selection.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Antonio TJ Harris is off
« on: April 03, 2019, 03:20:57 PM »
I have to confess when I saw the headline on Facebook ‘Wasps front row signs for Championship club’ I half hoped it would be Tom West back to Nottingham... ;)
Now that Thornton has gone I suspect he might stay but I really hope he gets some more chances next season.

I guess given the precarious state that Carnegie are in that TJ’s previously  proposed move is off.
If West can get a chance elsewhere then hopefully someone will snap him up. Woefully underused at Wasps because he’s just stuck behind too many other players (and barely gets a chance even when he isn’t!!)
I’m not too sure any other half decent looseheads would willingly become 4th choice at Wasps so if he does go then I guess Thornton will be promoted.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Stuart Confirmed at Bath
« on: January 21, 2019, 08:42:29 PM »
Mercer was definitely poached but undoubtedly given his chance early enough at Bath.
Ewells has come on really well as well as other promising youngsters like Ellis, Baylor’s and Douglass being given good game time.

Same with the backs with Atkins and all those backs called Max who have been trusted.

Does sound like a dig but Stuart arguably has had a really good amount of game time compared to West, James and Umaga so not quite sure what he’d have to complain about.
Unfortunately I can never envisage Dai giving a Darren Atkins regular game time at FB

We've trusted Tom Willis, and West, but through injury requirements, Bath seem to have been in the same position with injuries in the backs if I recall correctly? Stuart seemingly forced his way into recognition without injury requiring it.

Errrrm yes okay- I wouldn’t say 16 minutes of play in an entire season (yes I was counting, yes I know it’s sad and I make no apologies) is being ‘trusted’ as far as West is concerned!!
I’m not Will Stuart’s biggest fan but I have to admit he’s got a point. A very good point. As I said on DW I’m really surprised that it’s him doing off and not his mate West.
I feel really sorry for Tom (West) because having seen how hard he worked at Nottingham and was pretty much first choice prop there he comes back to Wasps and is promptly completely forgotten about. I wouldn’t blame him if he wanted game time elsewhere.
Same goes for all those other young players- as it’s been repeatedly pointed out they aren’t going to win big matches but sure who knows that if they aren’t given a chance? It frustrates me to read the posts that say ‘they should be grateful for A League and Prem Cup games’ but why? It’s no sort of competition for them.

I appreciate what’s being said above that it’s very difficult to keep everyone happy when more senior players are fit but it’s when the team are down to the bare bones in one position and the more senior player on the pitch is left on even after being injured rather than- heaven forbid- bring on someone less experienced to have a go or even let the less experienced player have a go first and give the more experienced player a break that is just a bit annoying.
I might sound like a stuck record but as you can probably all tell it’s something that frustrates me hugely.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Who are you really?
« on: January 21, 2019, 08:19:53 PM »
Hi everyone
I’m Andrea. I live in deepest darkest Leicestershire (unfortunately) with hubby to be who is a Tiggers fan (even more unfortunately :D) I’m 38 and originally from Newcastle-upon-Tyne, where I used to cover the Falcons matches as a member of St Johns Ambulance in the days when Falcons were actually quite good :D I’m a full time student, studying Sports Science and Psychology- my special interest is the psychology behind rugby injuries.
I’m actually a season ticket holder at Nottingham Rugby- however I sponsored Tom West for two seasons when he was with us and so I went to a few Wasps matches that he played in that time (Anglo Welsh cup, A-League and when he made his full debut against Saracens)
I was quite impressed with what I saw in Wasps as a team at that time and with the dislike of Tigers that had developed by then I decided to stick around. I don’t get to as many games as I would like (I’m physically disabled and don’t drive so it can be a bit much for me to cope with) but I always keep an eye on the result. Last game for me was the A-League game against Tigers at Welford Road, and last league game was the match v Saracens at the Allianz when the loanee prop that was on the bench was the player that I happen to be sponsoring this season at Nottingham :D
