Quite a few Top 14 clubs get use of a municipal stadium for minimal rent so don't have that expense.
They do also seem to have some slightly odd owners, the guy at Toulon being a good example!

They also get massive funding from Industry. The relationship between the Council/Mayor and local industry is very tight. I am sure there is a lot of backscratching that encourages financial support for the teams. Michelin, Airbus Group, etc etc.
La Rochelle is a better model for me - I believe around 3000 local businesses all have a stake in the club. You can see how the players respond.

If the Lions were being selected today, does anyone think any of the 23 that represented England on Saturday would get a nod? That's a damning indictment.

Would any non-Irish make the 23 at all?

England were dire on Saturday, as bad as I can ever remember seeing them in the 6N.

Chin up, chaps.

There were times in the 60's and 70's where England played like that against average opposition.

Isn't Shaun contracted until the next world cup? He will be into his 60's then.

Shaun Edwards made a statement today. A proud Englishman indeed.

Flament again. MOM if there is any justice. What a player.

35 mins and not a good situation for England.

Flament looks a fantastic player both in defence and attack, with 2-3 interventions a game that make a differnece.

I cannot help thinking that Tom Willis would be more effective than Dombrandt, who looks underpowered and lacking in direction.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: More Financial Trouble?

And of course, the more clubs that vanish from the Prem, means that there will be fewer  home fixtures and less income for the remainder. Then the TV broadcasters will start to lose interest and monies will reduce even further. And so it will go on..............

I've been saying the same thing since the comments about a 10 team prem were 1st muted, it makes zero sense to me that the clubs want less games, yes for player welfare but for revenue it doesn't make sense.

I think this has been proven out by the feedback from Tigers around their financial situation and can't remember if it was them or Saints who mentioned they would arrange 'additional games' which can only mean friendlies to make up the shortfall, that is going to annoy STH, I know it would me, that they have to pay for the matches with no meaning, plus when do they add them in as I would guess their are no fallow weeks in a 10 team league. Then for the casual fan who picks and chooses matches, who is going to go watch a friendly unless they play an international team, can't imagine the BaaBaas will step up like this year as there potentially won't be a big pool of players looking for something to do next year.

Unfortunately the comments about a 10 team Premiership were mooted; much better if they had been muted !

Barbeary on for Bath v Tigers??..,and off injured 9 minutes later.

I think the lad should find another career. Perpetual injure risk.
He may have no choice unfortunately. Sounds like the hamstring again. Something badly wrong there.

Most hamstring injuries are proximal - ie where the tendon inserts into the pelvis.

Alfie was clutching the outer side of his knee. Probably a lateral ligament injury.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: OT : Farrell past his use by date?

The errors made by Farrell suggest the pressure of being selected ahead of Smith has got to him.

I can't believe M Vunipola was selected and came off the bench.

There is a decent core to this team. They just need to get rid of some of the chaff.

There will also be a number of ex-Wasps/Worcester players who have signed short term contracts with other clubs, for substantially less than their previous contracts. Moving back to the region may be close to their home etc etc.

Saracens v Wasps, 14th Feb 2016. The St. Valentines Day Massacre. 23-64.🤣🤣🤣🤣

I was a guest of Saracens that day. You should have seen the faces around me after Wasps had scored three tries in the first 15 minutes.

Does anyone have any insight as to what is happening to the academies? I assume we can't just merge Wasps and Worcester. And if we are in the Championship and not a Premiership team, how is the Academy affected?

To me, supporting Wasps is about watching Academy players turn into Internationals.

If Wasps were playing in Timbuktu but still had a Willis or a Launchbury playing I would support them.

"Be brilliant if we're based near Solihull area allowing me to get a lift to see Wasps and to hopefully see some of the guys from here too."

We should be looking to hold a Wasps Resurrection Dinner.
