Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Dai Young on WLR, Coventry Evening Telegraph

Like i said before, the latest RugbyPod said WLR may be staying.

I think that may be a bit of a crossed wires as reading the article on Rugby Pass they state he isn't going to the Bulls. I believe there was as attempt to get WLR back to SA for the Super Rugby season which starts soon, before he heads to Japan.

https://www.rugbypass.com/news/a-bid-to-lure-le-roux-away-from-wasps-has-failed-reports

No, this was the last pod, that article is old and it was tittle tattle at best, he was never going mid year

Yes Ross, I think he's an easy target but actually contributes so much more than he's given credit for. I know there is the 'value' question but if the club could make it work he'd be the one to keep.

For me he is a must keep. Everyone has bad days, weeks etc but for every clanger he'll produce something positive. He is a genuine world class player, his link play is exceptional and he is bar far the best distributer we have. His range of passing and decision when too and general vision is insane, doesn't always come off, mostly does, but nothing ever does. If you rewatch a game and count all the subtle things he add's its crazy. Last year he was on fire, when we click again, he'll be on fire again.

I'd give him +Daly's wages to stay. If there's even a chance of him staying i'd be all over that.

Mancrush alert.

Ross,

"It's well worth the read. Some interesting statements and comments. I think it puts to the lie those posters on the other place who are calling for Dai' head on a spike outside the Ricoh."

Fact and sensibility have no place on DW..are you mad!

The Rugby pod ..Rumour WLR might be staying, i for one would be ecstatic..can't see it but ...

Let's try and avoid insulting people. We're all different with different opinions after all. That's why forums work...

VV...not sure where the insults are. Its just support that people can have a tongue in cheek laugh, if 1 person is ultra prissy, then thats no reason for the humour to stop, that's their problem...life's too short on DW, don't need it here.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Second row
« on: January 04, 2019, 03:57:45 PM »
My point is you could easily look at our back row and go "wow, how do they afford it"?
The comparison I make with Chiefs and Sarries, they all have 4 locks of similar standard. I don't see the point of comparing to the other nine clubs, as any one of them could be facing the drop.
We choose where we put our resources. Sarries maintain theirs by having relatively weak links elsewhere, and yes, they do have a strong programme and talent coming up, but they chose to recruit in the lock slot as well, despite the talent they did have.

We chose to recruit both Shields and Carr this year, despite Willisx2, Young, Reider, Hughes, Ashley. You could argue we could have recruited on an either/or basis and gone after a lock. Maybe we did and their were none about, but next year there will be you would think.

Looking at the Bath  game I would say Kruis and Skelton with Myall to replace them would have added a hell of a lot to us.
The whole team is under-performing...? Actually I am not so sure about that. Looking at our scrum v Quins,   the back row performance of Young in particular, Shields' workrate, Carrs' breaks, the work we have seen from our props around the field. There have been positive aspects. Its just that our second row to me at least looks perpetually under-powered and, actually, knackered.

If we werent under performing we wouldn't be losing the games we are.

Willis x 2? - We signed back row knowing that 1 is still developing, regardless of talent and the other would be crocked for the entire season, you speak of Reider who again wont play the whole season and we lost Haskell..Ashley is a 2 backup and Hughes is away in Intl. So we shouldn't have recruited back row?

I disagree on all your other points.

By all accounts the lack of injuries is the lack of contact in training - Which is somewhat ironic given the ‘old-fashioned’ label
Given that 90% of injuries happen in a game i don't buy that line

Unfortunately, both TT and Chesty are still having problems with concussion recovery. I hope that for both of them this doesn't prove to be anything worse.

Launch will make a difference and give one of our locks a break.

This has been a worrying length of time for both. From a Wasps point of view whilst great they have re signed, if they dont get it sorted by the end of the season you do have to wonder...

Same with Reider, I'm not even sure where he fits in the team now he's been out so long.

I tend to agree. I'm not offended but I don't like cheapshot sniping at other clubs or their supporters mainly because I used to go to a lot of football matches and the rivalry creates an extremely vitriolic atmosphere that I don't tend to experience at rugby matches. Just my perspective but I also recognise it as humour!

Also, if I may add, the DW site is much maligned by the supercilious on here and indeed on DW itself, but I would add that while it isn't the platform that is oft criticised (although the platform isn't great), but the content and the people that create it. If alternative opinion will be allowed on this site I think you should expect to find yourself in disagreement once again, albeit on a better platform, but that is what makes discussion interesting.

Gaz, it was clearly humorous and should have been taken as such. If a quins supported came on here he wouldn't even bat an eyelid at that comment quite honestly, so I'm not sure why anybody felt the need to highlight it. If someone says all 'quins supporters are utter tw@ts' then yes, fair enough, have a word...as it should have read 'the ones that have posted in their Dave Ward thread'  ;D (Joke). Life too short to be pulling people up on nothing, its just negativity, something that maligns the DW site.
Alternative opinion has been presented by myself on this subject in this reply, as such it has become discussion....so all good.

A captain needs a voice so i'd say yes but if Launch is back, it's a tough call, not as much a voice but def a pitch leader.

Hang on...its wasn't long ago Rowlands was putting in MOM performances and Myall is no slouch. I'm not sure its fair to be picking these guys out when you have a whole team under performing everywhere. I'd go on to suggest that you could have swapped them both out for Kruis and Skelton against Bath and it wouldn't have made a scrap of difference.
The constant comparison with Sarries is getting kind of old, as is how they created this foundation, there are 10 other team, how do our second rows stand up against them?...pretty good i'd say.
Its easy to look bad poorly performing team and vice versa. Launch is world class so of course he'd be a miss and Gaskell is high energy but the 2 we have give 100% and arent doing much wrong as individuals.

Another genuine reason to be positive is the Instagram video posted by Jack Willis which shows that his recovery is going very well. When he's back

Willis - Shields - Young will be one hell of a back row, with Nemo to come on.

Has Shields played 8?

I'd like to give Campo the 13 shirt for a while, I think he's a good operator.
JdJ hasn't worked as well at 12 but could be worth another shout. Daly on the wing.
I'd like to see ZZ start, he has a point of difference and it could be something we need, also think Stuart to start with JcW coming on later, Stuart is a better call carrier and equal in the scrum.
I wish we had another option to Bassett who for me has really gone off the boil, his route 1 mentality has really been shown up this year with the lack of space we seem to have nowdays.
The real Sops needs to start showing up...I'm not knocking him exactly but he's had enough games now to start improving and the whole point of having a player of his caliber is that even in adversity they can create something and show that point of difference that sets them apart from the average player. At the moment he is just shipping the ball on so deep and quickly that the opo inside man has time to realign the whole defensive line and we have no where to go and offer zero threat. Not sure where his kicking or grubber game has gone but i'm starting to get a bit of a downer on him, which I dont want to. I know he is settling in etc but he should still be showing more...he's supposed to be a world top 5 or so fly half.

No need to apologise, if 1 of 10 found it offensive then its not offensive and says more about the person that was offended.

Thing is you can't always point to sarries as a comparison, they are the exception in terms of recruitment and coaching, they didn't get there overnight and how they got there is another debate.

Gaby and Watson have been massive failures to the point of being a liability, i see why they were both brought in but it just hasn't worked, so I wouldn't be fussed about them moving on.
I'm mixed on Big Mac...good when fit but just never fit, he's available less than an international. Mullen I'd like to see again but the pre broken version who's work rate we really miss.
TT great but again, we need people who can play regularly and he concerns me.

I agree on Basset, he's become a bit of a one trick pony and needs to evolve his game a bit more instead of constantly looking for contact that he never really gets the better deal on. A Cordero type player would be immense.
Can't say I buy into this Gopps age theory, if someone is a fit as he is then I don't think age comes into conversation and he is arguably the player we have missed this year if only from a leadership point of view. He's a voice and an orchestrator.
Daly is a non story until it happens and if it did, then life goes on and I have for a couple of seasons now not bought into the hype that surrounds him. He has moments but he has more non moments for someone thats tagged as being so world class. World class players inpact the game, Daly rarely does and needs to step up, like the Bath game, he actually contributed to the malaise.
I buy even less into any Joe moving on theory and its BS like this that has greatly reduced my participation on the sportsnetwork board. Give me a tangible fact and I'll debate as much as the next man but the level of hysteria of non facts on that board renders it a place of zero enjoyment, I just can't absorb it....it's as if people are getting off on bad mouthing the club and mostly around pub hearsay.
I'm happy with these signings.
