Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Wasps facing relegation

NWW, thanks for the insight, appreciated.

Very sad day if true. Disappointed but I’m afraid I’m not surprised.

IMO they'd be better off demystifying the laws of the game to attract the casual observer. Endless scrum resets, mauls with weird law interpretations, and a bunch of forwards arm-wrestling the ball over the line is not going to attract a new and younger audience. They'd essentially be peddling a product around the UK that no one will remember, aside from a free ticket and a p1ss up.

Scrums, mauls and forward play should absolutely be a part of the game, but the powers that be need to find a way to make the 'product' more expansive and exciting.

Nothing gets you off your seat as much as a Christian Wade receiving the ball in space. Now, even the wingers are 6'4 bruisers.

Agreed. Something culturally wrong at that club, on the playing side. I’m beginning to think McCall and the coaches need to be rooted out before I can watch them again.

Genuine question, is arm to face an automatic red card these days?

Nice, wasn't telegraphed at all. More often than not you see a team setting up for a drop goal and you can see it coming, that was well executed.

Yes, agree about the mass-panic. Just take sensible precautions, based on some good advice now circulating.

I am relatively young and very healthy so I am not in the vulnerable group,  so it won't change my life for the time being.

But I will follow the advice if only to protect others. If I start to exhibit symptoms I will self-isolate. I may not die, but there are others in my family that probably would. I trust others to do the same.

11th hour game cancellation at Sale a few years back due to a waterlogged pitch

Conspiracy goes that the Wasps players just didn't fancy it and 'encouraged' the officials to call off the game while kicking back and munching on pizza - implying they had never intended to play the game.

All rubbish of course, as mentioned above.

Yes he had a tendency to sit quite deep at 10 so a 2nd playmaker at 15 would seem to suit him.

He would not be the first very good premiership 10 to cut his teeth at full back. It's just unfortunate it took a year to try something different.

If he can get anywhere near WLR/Beale levels across 15/12/10 then he might start representing value for money.

Take the point about the article maybe only representing half of what was said. However, from the few snippets available what is emerging is that we don't have someone else lined up/agreed. That really would be a cock up. On the SH point there's only really JTA who hasn't come off.

Are you suggesting that the board should have sourced and recruited a replacement while the incumbent is still in post?
Yes.

Blimey I thought I was cold! Fair enough, it's an approach I suppose.

Happy to take a step back before taking two forwards, if that's what it takes.

It was the right decision to change the DoR. The timing is odd but given this season is a free hit why wait until summer?

Doubt if the statement will say anything other than we have parted ways, thanks to Dai for years of service. A further announcement re coaching structure will be made in due course.

Intrigued as to what folks were expecting today. A storm and a head coach gone. Then we're at Welford Rd which consistently delivers the most home centric officiating you'll ever see. It was never going to be anything but a slug fest coming down to one or two moments. It did serve as a warning regards Umaga. He's not the finished article yet and we need to retain Sopoaga for next year to give Umaga space to develop in a non pressured way.

I agree with all that except Sops. He's not value for money and I'd rather watch Umaga learn. We do need another FH unless we can rely on Gopps and Miller + academy for rotation.

There is a lot to be optimistic about. Good quality youngsters coming through, it is these that the team (and ticket sales) should be built around.

Chance to change our fortunes with a new coaching team. No relegation this year and possible ringfencing next gives us time to rebuild.

The kids need a chance to build experience, the new coaching outfit need a chance to turn things around. This feels like a pivotal moment.

Now the decision has been taken we need to be patient as supporters and accept it may take a step backwards before we can take two steps forwards.

I'm not interested in spending energy lamenting those who don't want to commit to the cause. They can just go, free up some cap for someone who wants to sign, or open the pathway for more of our promising youngsters to come through in a virtually zero pressure situation.

Don't feel too bad, they're the ones that decided to move so they must have anticipated a change of behaviour for pre-coventry supporters in all their business modelling.
