Ruben Logan to Saints

https://twitter.com/btsportrugby/status/1634277364887633920?t=ofkJlnsuhWstuEMDkvkUWA&s=19

Big blow for those Waspies wishing the Academy players might stick around to be picked up by Wasps 2.

Reuben is a real talent who will hopefully develop into a quality senior player. Best wishes to him.

This one potentially raises a number of questions.

I guess the chance of a premiership contract is better than one in the championship and therefore trumps anything that Wasps could potentially offer.,

His dad has more info about what is happening at Wasps than anyone else so you do wonder what is happening.....

Both lads have gone to saints which is good for them, I guess the big questions will come if any of the academy lads sign for a championship team.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: More Financial Trouble?
« on: March 09, 2023, 07:10:11 AM »
And of course, the more clubs that vanish from the Prem, means that there will be fewer  home fixtures and less income for the remainder. Then the TV broadcasters will start to lose interest and monies will reduce even further. And so it will go on..............

I've been saying the same thing since the comments about a 10 team prem were 1st muted, it makes zero sense to me that the clubs want less games, yes for player welfare but for revenue it doesn't make sense.

I think this has been proven out by the feedback from Tigers around their financial situation and can't remember if it was them or Saints who mentioned they would arrange 'additional games' which can only mean friendlies to make up the shortfall, that is going to annoy STH, I know it would me, that they have to pay for the matches with no meaning, plus when do they add them in as I would guess their are no fallow weeks in a 10 team league. Then for the casual fan who picks and chooses matches, who is going to go watch a friendly unless they play an international team, can't imagine the BaaBaas will step up like this year as there potentially won't be a big pool of players looking for something to do next year.

The issue is, what would happen in the premiership?

It's fairly obvious in Ireland that Leinster are the favoured team, with most of the Ireland squad playing their, despite the central contracts. Those centrally contracted players benefit from playing with their international teammates at their club, having centrally contracted players in England spread across, whatever number of prem teams the RFU and PRL want, doesn't have the same benefit. I can see the RFU trying to keep it to 4 clubs.

So who would be the favoured clubs in England?

I think despite the fact they got kicked down a league for cheating, Sarries would be one of them,
Leicester likely to be another down to Borthwick,
Quins obviously with all their chums across the road a third,
so who would be the 4th team,
Chiefs unlikely as despite their success they never really had a lot of internationals, plus Tony Rowe,
Bristol unlikely as well due to the non-english contingent there (despite their great training facilities)
It won't be Sale or Newcastle, can't have the northerners involved
Won't be London Irish for obvious reasons
If we assume it won't be Wasps or Worcester as they are deemed Champ teams (or lower) (Although I think Wasps would have been a good option with their training facilities)
That leaves Bath, Glaws or Saints.
All 3 are traditional strong supported English clubs, and I'd have one of them before Sarries in a heartbeat, I think it would end up being Bath as Glaws probably deemed a but too small, and Saints too close to Tigers (I think it should be Saints before sarries).

So if it does end up being Sarries, Tigers, Quins & Bath, what does that mean for the rest of the prem, do we end up with a 2 tier league?

As I understand it, the bond debt went with the stadium, which Ashley bought.

Does that mean that he has no liabilty for it and the bondholders will not get a penny back?

Ashley has no liability.

However, the money raised from the sale of the stadium, the P-Share and the sale of the club will go into a pot and that will be used to pay pennies in the pound to creditors.
If the total debt was ?110M, and lets say the Rugby creditors are ?10M, then the money raised would go to pay back as much of the ?100M left as possible (minus the administrators hefty fee).
So Ashley paid ?17M, P-share was reported at ?9M, plus whatever the club sold for that would add upto approx ?25M. What should happen is all creditors should therefore get paid 25p in the pound, but know certain creditors get prioritised over others.

Any money due to the Governmernt (Tax) is treated as preferential. Not much left to split.

Exactly, Taxman is always 1st in the queue, hence my comment about prioritised creditors.
Not sure how much the Taxman was owed.

You'd think that with all of the recent scrutiny, that the RFU might opt to go for full and complete transparency and share the 'plan' or details of the application that we've submitted.

A fairly cryptic (or perhaps i'm reading into it too much) Tweet from the Wasps Legends account:

Quote
We look forward to working closely and collaboratively with Wasps RFC & FC in creating a thriving community

Difficult for the Amateur Club and the new entity in RFC to work closely and collaboratively if they're 100 miles apart.

They were working together before they went bust, all 3 teams had the same kit, ladies were training in Henley.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Spoiler: Eng v Scot

Mike, I think we are in the perfect storm at the moment. Jones was shockingly bad. The players available to England are also sub-standard in too many positions. A good example is scrum half. Youngs has been persisted with for an infeasible amount of time. But who has been snapping at his heels? There is a clutch of players, the likes of Mitchell, Robson, Spencer. Are any materially better than Youngs? .........

To pick up on that specific point as everyone points to Youngs, I honestly thought Youngs would have gone when he hit 100 caps, but Jones kept bringing him back, and whether there was a viable alternative or not no-one ever got a chance, take Robson, who we all know, he was week in week out the best 9 in the Prem for a while, he got picked for England and never got a start, and more often than not got 10mins at the end, I remember him getting a decent amount of game time in one match, as a winger! Then as you get towards a World Cup Jones goes Jones random and picks Heinz, who has never been seen again!
When you slog your guts out week in week out and get no thanks from the national coach then I'm sure you get to a stage of thinking, what's the point!
I'd suggest the same thing has happened with Spenser, he was the other in form Prem 9.
This is the Legacy Jones has left for England, a group of out or form players who get picked time and again, and a strong base group who would, if put in an England 15 to play the main squad would win with ease, who never get a chance.

As a Scot I think that's great :), but as a Wasps fan I hated the fact our great in form players got ignored time and again.

SA teams are the big turn off, the identity of the competition has been lost, felt the same about the Pro-12 when they were added. feels like a backdoor attempt to get SA into the 6nations.
