Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Booing at Bristol
« on: February 18, 2019, 01:03:19 PM »
We were sat in the Dolman stand, all the Bristol supporters around us were most hospitable ........

We were also in the Doleman stand and like you everyone was quite friendly, biggest issue was a group who spent most of the match walking back and forwards to the bar and seeming to inconvenience people as much as possible, to the point someone who was obviously a regular had a right go at them.

There was someone behind whose vocabulary went rapidly downhill as the game went on, that was mainly due to the way they were playing.   :)

I would have said there was more booing in the run-up to the conversion at the end of the 1st half as we ran down the clock, but overall I thought there was more than I had heard elsewhere, although Kingsholm is usually pretty bad.
Pretty much every tackle by a Wasps player was high, every pass forward and we were always offside.

It was my 1st visit to Ashton Gate and I'd like to go back on a weekend day (like it should have been this time) for a look around Bristol as it looked quite nice as we drove through on the way home.

There's a bit of a gap opening up for the bottom 3.. i wonder how the ringfencing discussions are going behind closed doors.

Hasn't it already been said it wouldn't happen this year if it was agreed?

I struggled with some of the match decisions and the atmosphere.

People were friendly enough although someone behind struggled with a very limited vocabulary after they went behind🤣.
Never had so many people heading to the bar constantly, some were good and stood to the side until a break in play but a group including 3 girls were constantly getting up to and seemed to be disturbing everyone around, not sure if that was a Friday night issue.
Agree with the constant high tackle calls and forward pass and offsides from the local fans.

Stadium announcements were terrible and couldn't understand them, small screen made smaller with ads.
Nice that they stopped the replays of Billy's injury after the 1st one, and didn't do their stupid dance cam thing they did on other injury breaks.

Listening on ref-link there were some strange decisions from Barnsey, early in 1st half he called advantage over just as Bristol kicked to clear their lines, the kick went out on the full, but he gave Bristol their advantage and he said it didn't seem fair to give the advantage on the lineout to Wasps.
Then in the 2nd half he pinged Bristol for their 7 drifting in on the lineout, Bristol player gave the ball to Wasps assuming the penalty, but Wayne allowed Bristol to retake the lineout?
For the 'worlds best ref' I wasn't that impressed.

Decent team thankfully, hoping for a good result to make the drive to Bristol on a Friday night worthwhile

Shame about Campo if true.

Also in the Wales game player ratings, Thomas Young was their highest rated Welsh player. Just hope Gats gives him a chance again, and they find a way of keeping him at Wasps.

He also put up a 'dancing queen' video of him doing side steps etc on Instagram stories yesterday so looking to be getting close.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Bristol Bears car parking

I was planning a day out with the other half on the Sunday in Bristol, already have tickets and parking was booked nearby, parking now cancelled and trying to work out timing to get there after work now.
Unimpressed with the late change as the match is only 2 weeks away.

I may have come across as a bit harsh, I have no issue with what he is doing - he is setting himself up to earn a decent living after rugby. I just think he should leave Wasps alone and focus on himself. And, if you listen to Joe's House of Rugby (Podcast) where he regularly doubles up with Tindall, it is laugh out loud funny. It can be found on Youtube as well https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w6aJPU2pylM.

There you go Hask, free publicity ;)

The Christmas one was particularly good, although Hask had a few beers during the recording which may have helped.😂😂

It's interesting to see the two together. It would suggest that Ireland are doing very well, England are playing at a level somewhere between the two, and everyone else is struggling.

Really?

Only if you ignore the fact that both Scottish teams who are in the Champions Cup qualified for the quarter finals.

Adamson rarely smiles, but he was having a joke with danabout his not allowing His quick penalty when he would have scored. Anyone know why he pulled him back?

Listening on ref-link he said he couldn't take a tap and go before he had blown the whistle for the penalty.

Why was a Pro 14 referee in charge today. Lots of chats with the team he knew heard on ref link. Puzzled.

Not blaming the ref and no conspiracy theories from me but I have to agree and the familiarity was obvious to see and think it helped Leinster as they know how he operates.

There were some strange decisions made, the high tackle penalty we got was ridiculous, he even told Daly, yes he was dropping but it was still high. If that is how high tackles are going to be reffed then Rugby has some issues going forward.
Haven't looked at where the officials come from but was surprised to hear one of them had a very strong Irish accent.

A lot of positives in the 2nd half and think they played better than they have recently, for me, Lima looked better and started showing why he is here, we missed Launch after he went off, still too many silly mistakes and they need to hold onto the ball better.
Missed YY at the breakdown

Morning all (just)

Mixed weather here in Cov so wont be venturing out much, so will relax in front of the TV for this one.

With a pretty strong team this one is there for the taking to hopefully keep the momentum going as next weekend will be a tough one.

Like i said before, the latest RugbyPod said WLR may be staying.

I think that may be a bit of a crossed wires as reading the article on Rugby Pass they state he isn't going to the Bulls. I believe there was as attempt to get WLR back to SA for the Super Rugby season which starts soon, before he heads to Japan.

I guess ultimately this one is down to Wasps, unless there is a get-out in his contract, although I seem to remember someone saying the training ground clause didn't exist, but like anything it's all hearsay.

The only thing for certain we know currently is that he has a Wasps contract for next year.

As has been said, both (or all 3) parties need to come to a conclusion and let everyone know.

The 2 I worry about long term are Tommy & Chesty, if they are struggling to get over concussion protocols since November, does that put them at risk with any future head knocks, although that could be why they aren't rushing them back? Dai does seem quite vague as to when they will be back.

It is probably the same scenario as George North was in for a while, he seems to be firing on all cylinders now after prolonged rest periods, better to take a little longer and be 100% sure than rush players back at 80% certainty. Fingers crossed.

I did think about George North as I was writing the post. There was a time a couple of years back where it was almost felt his career was over due to the constant issues but not seen mention of it for some time now.

I hope both are okay and can return soon when they get the all clear, I'd never want anyone to come back early as it isn't worth it, I guess we all get used to someone failing a HIA and then being back the following week, or missing 1 week at most, and being out for months is, thankfully, rare we just have 2 of them in the same situation.

Slightly disappointing about Jimmy, was hoping he would be back for that block of 4 Prem games.

Great news about Jack though.

Alex has been back outside running as well from his social media, Matt Mullan is the strange one as he seems to be almost anonymous since his injury, he's not on social media but don't see him in others posts and he has been rarely mentioned in Dai's injury updates.
