Title: Ollie Lawrence
Post by: RBB on December 14, 2021, 12:55:36 PM
Supposition and Wishful Thinking

Both he and Alfie Barbeary posted on Twitter, of them chatting after the Munster game. They are probably mates via the junior England ranks but Ollie was in the crowd and from what I can tell his extension with Warriors expires in the summer. Not a bad addition if we could get him. However, our track record of establishing centres coming in from Wuss is woeful.

Can't imagine Worcester would be happy letting another centre go early for us either!

Edit: oh hang on his contract expires? Looking online you might be right. How is he injury wise? Or is that irrelevant until he's signed?

Would be a decent signing. No chance of England calling for a bit and I think he'd like playing our way.....

Screwed over by England and a really bad taste quote in Jones' book too.....

Has he not had a few injuries?

Mind you if so he'd fit in nicely.

Not sure… definitely wouldn’t come cheap and has had a few injuries too. Would be cheaper than Fekitoa though surely.

John Mitchell + training ground must have some pull this year though in terms of recruitment.

If he's injury-prone maybe we'd be the nAT

Sorry  .....shaky hand.  That should have read "If he is injury-prone maybe Wasps is his natural home."

All rugby suggest that he's played a load of game last three season (this and the last two) so I'm not sure we could suggest "injury prone"

It may be that Eddie's comments on his attitude aren't 100% incorrect. However, Wasps seems to be a club that's more welcoming to different characters than normal, with Alo, Umaga, Odogwu etc, all making comments to some degree or another about how they feel they can be themselves at Wasps. So maybe that would work to our advantage.

He's a tidy player, he's not the complete package yet, but certainly would be a tidy pickup.

Would definitely take him, but I don't think we'll have the money to compete with what Worcester will offer. But there is a chance that he might want a change of scene and a new way of playing?

I’d be happy to sign Lawrence. A talented player for me.

This is where signing aspirational big names is essential, and exactly what we have done. If we are recruiting exclusively from the Championship and other club's talented youngsters and the like, then trying to sign a player like OL is harder. All it takes is one Koch like signing and potential targets look at Wasps and say 'this club means business and is looking for titles'. I suspect that recruitment for next year might well be looking at some mid level targets like this.

Indeed. Plus we can show them round a 32,000 seater stadium complex and a sparkling new state of the art training complex.

Not sure I'd draw attention to a 32,000 seat stadium that is never over a third full nor a training complex with half the team doing injury re-hab in it ;D

Come on - most of them were injured before the Training Centre opened.

While that's correct for the longer term injuries, there's been plenty more since it opened. However I wasn't attempting to blame the training centre for the injuries, so the number before or after are irrelevant. If I was a player contemplating coming to wasps I would be worried about the injury rate, either rationally, is it something about the S&C etc or irrationally, have they been cursed?  ;)
