Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: The Once a Wasp 1st XV

Someone's beaten me to it by offering to be a sub so I'll stick to wing - back in the time when wings threw in to lineouts.
Worse playing experience. Playing for Ealing Thirds at Henley and we were the last of three games to finish on a wet & muddy November afternoon. So the previous teams beat us to the communal baths. Not a pretty sight! Thank goodness for the jugs of beer.

Real name Peter Jones - no relation to the shop nor the Dragons Den man.

Brought up in South Wales, went to a school that only played rugby, and where I supported Swansea/All Whites/Ospreys - until the day they played Wasps (at Loftus Road or Adams Park?) where I discovered that my loyalty had changed! Worked in Coventry for a couple of years and watched Duckham and Rossborough, listening to the great chant "set them alight Cov".

Supported Wasps since 1989 when I took my 9 year old son to Sudbury. Oddest memory there was arrending a postponed match after the end of the season and the temporary grand stand with half a dozen rows including my seat had gone away to the next rentee. Followed to Loftus Road - and bought some Loftus Road plc shares, then to Adams Park and now occasionally to the Ricoh. Had 3 season tickets for a while until my children moved away. Used to live in Chesham, now in Berkhamsted.

First overseas trip was to the great match against Munster in Dublin. Since then weekends with my partner in Bayonne, Toulon and La Rochelle which helped convert her to rugby. Sadly she died in September.

First match will be at Bristol in February staying with a Bristol STH and surrounded by Bristol STHs. They are a friendly bunch - I must remember not to drink the same as they do at the three pubs we stop at on the way to the match.

I set up my own management consultancy in 1989 and claim that I am still worked, despite age & breaking my ankle nearly 3 months ago.

Must be an early 1 April piece of fake news.

So another long-term rumour looks likely to be true. A pity to lose Joe but he seems to be a long way behind Dan.

Interesting that contract discussions are not supposed to happen until this month but all the rumours about Wasps players leaving have been around for several months. The rumour about Fekitoa was probably the longest-runnng one and nobody seemed to know about Toomaga-Allen and Owlett.

The alternative to a Scottish Pro 14 referee would have been a French or Italian one. Don't think there are any Italian ones involved and I guess the French ones were involved in other games. Thought he was generally fine and good at chatting with the players when appropriate.
Like other comments, I agree we made some improvements in the second half against a very tough side.Carr was excellent. Great to have Robson back doing what he is best at at. Gabby was better than some of the recent comments about him. Rowlands and Morris did very well. Lima seemed to be settling in better. Don't know how Cruse carries on playing at such a high energy level.

So Robson in the squad two games after returning from injury. What did EJ see that he had missed before?

I've watched him playing in Super Rugby and was impressed. Strong runner, very good hands, good tackler. Craig Dowd Mark 2.
